Really old files, "gwailo originals"? Looking to recover as many as I can...

Hi, a long time ago, before sm even existed out I started making simfiles for a "new game" called DWI after playing a simfile by a guy who called himself BeMaNiRuLeR. Anyway, a little later on things like the DDRei Tournaments became commonplace, and sm took over, and after a couple of ridiculously ambitious combined attempts at really long simfiles with a guy named Fo0by (I think he lasted a bit longer than me?), I stopped, and eventually my harddrive got wiped and now I have nothing left.

Now, something like 8 years later, I feel nostalgic and I'm looking for some of my original simfiles! I had about 40, and at least half of those were given to other people, though most of them were probably lost. I am encouraged by the fact that I've managed to find my simfile of Prodigy - Casanova (I know now it should be Baby D - Casanova (Prodigy something something remix)) on a compilation called "Skor's Selection of High Quality Simfiles", the maker of which I think used to be a regular on these boards.

The encouraging thing is that I only ever sent that simfile to one person, so maybe there is some hope for the other simfiles.

Almost all of them were packaged with art, and the ones I want most usually have pretty complex BPM changes in them (that was the new thing back then!). Musically they're pretty varied, but I was pretty into the game back then so the difficulty is pretty up there as well.

If anybody has any information about these, please let me know! I had a website (anybody remember what Fo0by's DWInsanity looked like? the same guy made mine for me, so there were similarities haha), and most of my best ones were up on that until it went down, but I'm pretty sure that they were all labeled as "gwailo originals", and they also had a text file in them with some information.

The files that I know exist are:
Prodigy - Casanova (because I found it, also someone put it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcOBYkEeaVg )
Beyond Abilities - Warren (yeah, I made the second version of this song I think, and I found a video of it on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu5FER_cSjM )
DJ Sharpnel - Torinouta (this was a tournamix 3, 4? entry, and as far as I know, me and Fo0by both won or something the equivalent... unfortunately something weird happened at the end with the judges... controversy lol. video found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7x8CraY6Qw )

Just to clarify, I only have the simfile to the first of those... I've asked the guys who made the videos individually for the simfiles, but I've had no responses yet.

Some of the other songs I recall making include:
    - Sammi Cheng - Du Yi Wu Er (Remix) [Not sure about the naming of that one... could have been Mandarin or Cantonese] Really crazy timing/steps for this one, it took me ages to make, and I would explode if somebody found this for me. Basically, every step had a weird jitter on it, which was probably very annoying to people who'd never played the song before, but was a good challenge for memory.
    - One or two Foo Fighters songs? including Monkey Wrench.
    - Failure - Enjoy the Silence
    - A Jay Chou rap song (lol)
    - A couple of Hamasaki Ayumi tracks including Independent
    - A couple of orange lounge tracks including "love is orange"
    - A MAXX Unlimited trance? remix by one of the guys who did Max remixes back then, DJ Ashura maybe? I can't remember what it was called, but it was something like Maxx Somethingxxshion. All I remember about the song itself is that it was trancey, and there was a Max 300 style freeze in the middle where there was an evil "laugh" that was pretty memorable. Lol I guess that's too vague. I'm suprised I can't find it on Youtube anywhere, the song itself was pretty well made...

And a whole bunch more that I'm sure I'll never be able to remember, but I'll be ecstatic if you suprise me.

There is one more that I really doubt anybody has, because I don't think Fo0by released it, but we worked on a single simfile for a couple of weeks, for the Paraparapara soundtrack? volume 2 maybe?... the entire megamix of it. It was 60 minutes long (yes, a 60 minute simfile), and I think I got about half way through the oni/challenge steps before I gave up simfiling for life lol. But the parts that were done were still pretty impressive.

It was meant to be a kind of sequel to Fo0by's Ayumi megamix simfile (found the name on someone's HDD listing on google: Cyber TRANCE Presents AYU Trance 2), which was something like 30 minutes long (and a great 30 minutes it was!), and if anyone has that simfile I'd love to try it on pad again so please let me know!

Sorry for the really long long post. I hope somebody has a big and old enough hard drive to be able to help me a little bit here. All I can do is hope! Thanks for your time,

    Gavin (Gwailo)

EDIT: Just checked around and found the name of the Sammi songs: the weird BPM trancey one was called "Du Yi Wu Er" (might be the wrong version though, I thought it was cantonese), and the other was "Mei Fei Se Wu", and again not sure if that's the right language-version.

I don't know who stepped it, but there is a version of Ayu Trance 2 at http://izzysm.mine.nu/Random%20Files/.

Was probably on bemanistyle v1 and ffr simfile database 1. If all else fails you could recreate them using the videos.

I used to see Fooby in real life, but I have no clue what happened to him for about a year since.

Thanks for the comments ppl. Recreating the three that I have videos for is possible, only it will probably take almost as long as it did to write them in the first place! Most of them have complex timing issues in them though that I won't be able to decipher from the video, so that's not an option.

I've had a breakthrough though, there was a version of my website on the internet archive (of course, none of the files are archived), but at least I now have a list of the files that have been downloaded from my site, and are most likely to have been preserved somewhere lol.

                  Here it is:

Flower Garden by 浜崎あゆみ (Hamasaki Ayumi)
Para Para Sakura by 郭富城 (Aaron Kwok)
Velfarre 2000 by the BAZOOKA GIRLS
Enjoy the Silence by Failure (Depeche Mode cover)
Setting Sun by The Chemical Brothers (feat. Noel Gallagher)
反方向的钟 (Counterclockwise Clock) by 周杰伦 (Jay Chou)
                  Clocks by Coldplay
                  STAR DREAM by PINK PONG
獨一無二 (Unique) (Remix) by 鄭秀文 (Sammi Cheng) <-- This is the crazy BPM changes on I was talking about, there was a note that the file will crash DWI, but it worked fine in SM
The legend of TRANCE by Loki and ZZ feat. Sun Decade <-- OK so apparently it wasn't Maxx Somethingshion, odd. There is a video of somebody playing something of the same title here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msbIAt0FOsk I recognize the BG that I stole from DeviantArt haha... but I don't remember writing challenge steps, certainly not like those, and the song doesn't sound familiar so maybe it's different... [EDIT: Just noticed the "2004" subscript, so it's a different version of the song? But they reused the same BG art from my file?]
Time Goes By (Darren Tate Remix) by Every Little Thing
100 Sec. Kitchen Battle! by Orange Lounge
                  HELL SCAPER by L.E.D.LIGHT-G
Colourful Boxing by 郭富城 (Aaron Kwok) <-- Apparently I entered this in Tournamix4? I had no idea...
                  Wind by Akeboshi
Casanova by The Prodigy (found this already)
Beyond Abilities by Warmen (thought I found it but it was actually the version that I originally found when I decided to make it in the first place... so close!)

Now obviously a couple of those are a bit silly, so they were probably completely forgotten, but does anybody recall any of these? Thanks for all your help. Here's hoping something comes up!

Eight years is a long time bro, people come and go, and some just leave all together. In my opinion finding all of your files is going to be like getting the needle from the haystack.

I have a lot of files from way back when, but I don't think I have any of yours. I just searched all of my files, and Casanova was the only one that I recognized. It is possible that I do have a few others, that were not marked with "gwailo", but I'm not going to start that kind of digging right now.

Aw, thanks -11-, unfortunately it's not mine. Mine would have been a year or so older than Tourney1 (where that one comes from apparently), and I'm sure a lot of people have simmed that song since then.

And to "dood gone krazee", yeah you're right. I'm not really expecting to find anything, but I'd be ecstatic if I could find just one of my more elaborate ones, so all I can do is hope.
