...you've lost your combo. Curse, boo out, restart the song, rinse and repeat. This tends to happen to me with long songs (1000+ notes). I try to follow the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, take at least a 20 second break while focusing your eyes at least 20 feet away. I find it improves my concentration and I tend to blink less, which usually results in better scores. How do you guys regulate your blinking?

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
play the songs enough times to memorize the patterns so when you blink, you're still hitting the pattern and it wont mess you upComment

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
I also find that I can play FFR longer in a morning session than I can during a night session, because my eyes dry out at night and excessive blinking screws up my accuracy. Does anyone else feel that way as well?Last edited by musicdemon; 03-14-2009, 11:20 AM.Comment

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
I've got a miserable case of OCD and the meds really screw me up, so left untreated it makes playing FFR really, really difficult..

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
I don't really pay much attention to what my eyes are doing while I'm playing. I mean... I'll blink when I have to and it usually doesn't mess me up. I have noticed that I play better when it's dark. It's easier for my eyes to focus on the screen since I look mainly at the black background when I play. If it's dark, there won't be a glare to distract me.Unofficial Slayerific Phantominizer 1st Tournament: D1 - 1st placeThe Krunkykäse Tournament!: D2 - 2nd placeSocoNhydro's Tournament of Eternity (June): D2 - 2nd place

That's interesting. I find that it cuts down on my eyestrain when I turn on my floor lamp. I think that it's easier to get like a deer in the headlights when you play in a dark room.Comment

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
Umm when it's excessively dark, staring at the screen simply hurts my eyes. I like to keep a light on behind me to throw some light around the room without having glare on the screen.
As for blinking, it's never been a problem for me - at least not that I've consciously noticed. Now that I've read this, I notice I actually don't close my eyes for as long as the perfect frame, I wouldn't think. Now SNEEZING, that sucks. Of course I've AAA'd a song before whilst sneezing during the song, so it all depends on how dense the amount of arrows are that you can't subconsciously memorize the arrows at a certain beat are going.. If it's a slow song, sneezing doesn't hurt so much so long as you open your eyes before the entire screen of arrows you remember hasn't gone by.
If I sneeze during something like RATO, it doesn't matter, either. It just means I go from technical mashing to blind mashing for a second =3

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
Same.
I do notice that at the end of very long songs, my eyes start to burn pretty bad, which is likely a product of not blinking for 3+ minutes.
I've sneezed while playing too. It's bull****. Combo is wrecked, just boo out. lmaoComment

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
I don't think about blinking. If I blink it doesn't mess me up. If I don't blink purposely, my eyes get tired and dry.
Just learn to blink without messing up. Its not hard, just don't mindlessly stare at the same spot on the screen constantly.
It helps to zone out and lose focus during songs for some reason.

Re: In the Blink of an Eye...
I usually try to think of something spontaneous that's really interesting. Then the song finishes and I can't remember playing the song at all.
That's when i get my best scores.
Edit: Also yeah, just memorize certain patterns in the areas you are most likely to blink. Like if you're going to blink every 12 seconds, remember exactly whats there at that time.Comment
