Remember that Blind Guardian permission I asked about around six months ago?

Just found the info to get back into my email.

On July 24th, the label sent me a reply back:

Thank you for your letter. However, the song you are inquiring about is not a song we own the rights to as it was released under a different album on another label.

If you would like to select a song from the album, A Twist In The Myth, our label would be able to assist you:

So, now, I need input from you guys.

    Here's the tracklist with lengths:

    This Will Never End 05:07
    Otherland 05:14
    Turn The Page 04:16
    Fly 05:43
    Carry The Blessed Home 04:03
    Another Stranger Me 04:36
    Straight Through The Mirror 05:48
    Lionheart 04:15
    Skalds And Shadows 03:13
    The Edge 04:27
    The New Order 04:49

I know SulferDragon already stepped a rather difficult (for me, meaning easy for you competent people) file of Another Stranger Me. We could possibly use that. Point being, I need to email them back concerning specific tracks.

What tracks do I ask for?

just ask for permission from blind guardian in general

i mean why bother asking for one when you can ask for all?

Already did. That was the first email, mate.

The reply basically says that they can't give blanket permission because they don't own the rights to all of BG's songs. Only that one album.

Then ask for just the album, is that such a hard concept to grasp?

If you read the reply, they said "If you'd like A SONG", is that such a hard ****ing concept to grasp?

You haven't tried it yet, that's why I'm suggesting asking for the whole album.

But if you don't want to risk losing the permission, just take the longest song, Fly, and step the whole thing for FFR. (This is assuming the whole thing is not repetitive and is stepable.)

              k. I'm gonna shoot an email back asking for the album, and saying that if they don't wish to do that, I'm requesting "Fly", and see what they come back with.

Picking a song based on the longest length is retarded. We don't need any extra long songs. *coughentirerockgenrecough*
Go for the one that would make the most interesting file.

See, this is why you don't just choose the longest song, Fly is the slowest, gasyest song on the CD.

Aren't we good friends with Virgin Records?

If so, maybe Tass should message Virgin and get their other albums, this one isn't as good :/

A Night at the Opera has a lot better songs.

Although I only got to lisin to 0:30 second previews on Imeem.com, but I can prob lisin to all the songs and tell you which would be the best to step, since I make files so I'd know atleast what would be a good song for FFR.

i've spoken with the ceo of nuclear blast before... long time ago. we've worked with All Shall Perish. you should definitely mention that. possibly link to the ASP widget.

and, definitely ask for permission for the entire album.

as far as Virgin... we have no relationship with them.

And this is why I haven't even gone to send it yet. With the arrival of this info, I'm glad I waited.

Thanks for the info. I'll do a write-up either before I go to bed this morning or sometime later today.

can't ever hurt to talk to me when it comes to band permissions... considering i started it all and have been part of it all. i bet i have that email somewhere... lemme find it.

yea. found it... was over a year ago. i spoke with Gerardo Martinez, the label manager for nuclear blast usa.

from their site, it seems like Mike Ruiz is a good person to be speaking with. he handles their online business. if you mention my speaking with gerardo, to make sure to mention that everything you're looking to do is free to them from us (when i had contacted gerardo previously it was in regards to doing some not-for-free widgets for other NB bands).
