    I'll Try Again...

    To make a suggestion. I was thinking... Ya'll remember in my one year anniversary thread I said we need more mods and someone said we need them to be around the world so we can have 24/7 coverage? Well, I kind of thought a little more about it.

    Would it be cool, if it's possible, for FFR to automatically detect the language your computer and translate the main English language into your's? Seems stupid at first probably, but think about it like this: If we get a few more mirrors in some popular languages then the site can appeal to people all around and be legible to them since it'll also translate.

    Hope you guys like it!

      It would be horribly mutilated language if it was translated like that. Auto translations are never accurate. So I'm not in favor.

                  Just promote jimerax. He already has some influence over administration, so why not?

                      Ya, that was me. I said we needed mods on when others were sleeping because, as it currently stands, every moderator goes by American (or very similar) time.

                      Just promote jimerax. He already has some influence over administration, so why not?

                      I thought jimerax was American? Wouldn't really solve the problem of lack of mods around at non-American times. Though if he isn't then yeah good choice.

                              If you meant this, rzr, it might raise people's interest in FFR worldwide but would do nothing to help modding when everyone posts in English. The only help they could provide is if they notice really obvious thread spamming ("they" being the hypothetical moderators in other countries).

                                                  I think jx has the power to change song list information, move songs in R1, and moderate simfile forums as of today.

                                                  Yes, he is Japanese, and does live in Japan. Unless if I played Pop n Music with some stranger in Ikebukuro this summer.

                                                      It looks like rzr is talking about a global FFR, not mods (he was thinking about international mods, then went "international zomfg").

                                                      Basically, what would have to happen would be some sort of IP address detector that redirected you to a version of the site made specifically for your country/language. This is easy enough to implement, but making different versions of the site in different languages would have to be done manually (a translator would mangle so much stuff, especially things that don't necessarily have any translations) and there would be little to no advantage coming out of such an arrangement.

                                                      It's somewhat circular; without a lot of international traffic, it's difficult to justify spending the time making language mirrors, but without some language mirrors, that international traffic may never come. Personally, I think it's pretty much a waste of time to make such mirrors, since almost everyone on the site and probably most who come here speak English, first language or not.
