Bush, Cheney signal support for Georgia

President Bush condemned the escalated violence between Russia and U.S.-backed Georgia on Sunday, while Vice President Dick Cheney said aggression against Georgia "must not go unanswered."

I would love to hear what others have to say on this topic.

My first impression, when hearing the article's name, was 'awesome, we're siding with a country that's being attack by Rus..', and that's when it hit me: Bush sided against Russia. Am I the only one who thinks this is a HUGE mistake?

Would you like to explain why you think it's such a huge mistake before I tell you whether or not I agree or disagree?

Russia is a powerful nation who is attacking a small country. Bush sided with this small country. What leaves Russia from not attacking the USA now?

Indeed. There could be consequences for the world if Russia took this as an American act of hostility and decided to declare war. All we're simply doing is acknowledging Georgia's territorial rights at this point. There's nothing terribly complicated behind it either because Georgia is a democracy trying to become Westernized, and has ambitions to join NATO. Why wouldn't we support this?
