I walked out. I seriously walked out and think that both of you are borderline disabled.

Pure fun doesn't mean a bland cliched story that you know the ending to before it begins taking up most of the screentime, the driving portions being semi-followable were the only good part, but mostly the flashy 60s retro future look detracts from any sort of aesthetic enjoyment.
Ben Kenobi getting killed = What? Where did that come from?
Darth Vader being Luke's father = What? This changes the entire movie series!
Just because they're family films doesn't mean they have to suck. Ratatoullie was pure escapism and I loved it, because it also had heart, a great story, excellent actors, great animation, and it was funny.
Speed Racer has none of those things. It's hyper stylized, somewhat mean, tired performances, and the humor was way forced.

I refuse to see it, because although the theme of speed racer is an awesome one, it needs to be changed to be darker and more evil, much like they did with Transformers.
Speed Racer is a terribly drawn overcolored piece of crap from Japan, so the movie shouldn't be a terribly acted overcolored piece of crap from America. It should have been much darker.

Gosh, isn't speed racer another way to say, "hot wheels"?
Feel several different pains, before they're colored pure red

What the ****.
They did not make Transformers darker or more evil. They just transplanted it into modern day Earth and sprinkled in a dash of realism for the visuals of the transformers so it didn't look so ludicrous. They also cut out stupid **** like Megatron turning into a GUN. They didn't throw in any extra dark mood that wasn't already present in the original show, if only represented poorly due to the art style.
Seriously, check out some of the source material for Transformers. You might as well say V for Vendetta was made "darker and more evil" or that The Flintstones was made "darker and more evil". It's just so stupid.
Personally, I think it looks like it'd be interesting and I do wish to see it, if only for the unique look. And yeah, it has a cliche story, but it's not like that's nothing new in the film biz (irony). However, I read a review and it said it was like 2 hours long. That's ****ed up. A film with this target audience, with this emphasis on visuals, based on an old kiddie show, should not be that long if it's not deep.
ps people talking about overcolored and **** clearly have no idea what they're talking about because the only similar hues that show up on the old show are in the "intense" backgrounds of color patterns. The tracks and visual designs are a lot more like realistic roads and such.
Yes. Big Brother is everywhere, the mega corporations will always keep tabs on you, etc. Remember, the Wachowski's were the people that put V for Vendetta on the big screen.

But the idea that a corporation is behind the scenes, pulling the strings on 'life' is a definite theme. The movie carries a strong anti-conglomerate message. No denying that.
