I like the music that I like. The nationality of the composer or musicians doesn't even come close to factoring into it.

          True, devonin. :]

Most of the music I listen to is Asian/European... And mostly consists of Japanese or Russian music artists.

Yeah. Any foreign language music is going to be better than English music.

Re: Does anyone like asian music?

                In most cases:
I like female voice over male voice.
                I like Asian accents/languages over American accents/languages.
                I like instrumental/ambient off-vocals over rave/euro off-vocals
                I like pop/softrock over hiphop/rap

There are quite a few exceptions to these, but I like Asian music.
I'm sure many people like Asian music.

Re: Does anyone like asian music?

"J-" genres are all an enormous farce. You don't like "j-rock", you like "rock". There's no notable difference between a rock song played by Japanese people and a rock song played by any other people. If you say you like "j-rock", you're just exercising a crush on foreign culture.

If you say "I like Asian music" and don't even list genres that originate from those countries, you really have no taste in music, you're just a weeaboo. Sorry.

I think language has a great impact on the way music sounds. I like Japanese and similar languages more than American English, because of the terse syllabic sounds. American English is too slurred, and there are many examples of American Rock/Pop music in which I have no idea as to what they're saying. I also find a notable difference in the voices between a Japanese singer and an English singer. American English singers tend to have extremely rigorous vibratory fluctuations, which some people like, but I don't. You can't possibly deny the fact that the differing languages of Japanese and American English have two completely different results on the way music is interpreted.

You also don't find akiba-pop (moe moe, like MOSAIC.WAV) type of music in America... or at least from what I know. One reason I like female voice above males voice is because I prefer high-pitch melodies. Hence, I like vocaloids, because you can program them to sing higher than what is capable from the average human female singer.

Note: My knowledge pertaining to American English songs is very limited. I have a bad impression from death metal, and outrageous screaming/hollering nonsense (no offense to those who like such genres, but I despise them.), so I generally avoid listening to them.

However, I do think that Roses and Butterflies, and Driveway (from FFR) are likable to a degree, because the melodic qualities are similar to that of J-rock. I still don't like the English language used as a vocal medium.

vocals consist of 25% or less of most music

Small aspects of one part of the melody shouldn't be enough for you to shun several continents' worth of music. If they are, you're extremely close-minded and musically ignorant.

Also, I wonder if you'd be able to tell the difference between a Japanese rock instrumental and, say, a Finnish rock instrumental? J-ROCK IS TOTALLY INDEPENDENT OF ROCK RIGHT

I bet you don't listen to any non-Asian languages with similar feels.

Japanese is what's widely available on the internet... I agree with a lot of what Midday is saying, foreign languages just sound better to me, but it's not only Japanese. My favorite song is in Latin. It's less because I prefer the sounds of foreign words and more because I think the voice should be treated more like other instruments, instead of being the focus while the instruments play background music (there are exceptions of course), and understanding and listening to the lyrics makes it stand out a lot more to me than if it sounds like gibberish. I would honestly prefer if vocals were done in gibberish that was designed to take advantage of the way the different words can affect the way vocals sound instead of having the melody and lyrics often being written completely independently. Plus, even if it sounds shallow, something that sounds exotic often sounds better.

Don't quote me and change the content so it looks like I said something in an immature and retarded manner.

I was considering vocals only. I don't have much experience with non-vocals, besides the amateur Japanese artists who have muzie/piapro/mixi accounts and FFR/SM/IIDX related material. Therefore, I never incorporated non-vocal material into my explanation.

I never said J-ROCK IS TOTALLY INDEPENDENT OF ROCK (caps ftl, geez). J-rock has the genre of "rock" in it, because it is in fact "rock" music. I've only heard of one Japanese instrumental rock artist (kisk). I never listened to any other non-vocal rock artist. Also, many people seem to have the misconception that J-rock has to sound completely oriental, but that's not true. Many recent J-rock artists get inspiration from European artists as well.

I said, "I like Japanese and similar languages more than American English, because of the terse syllabic sounds," because I don't feel any terse syllabic sounds from the English language. Japanese pronounciation always has a strict pattern of consonant->vowel->consonant->vowel, which gives it a more succinct and punctilious sound to it. English sounds slurred because of the pronounciation of consonants like r and l, as well as many other areas of combined speech.

This is opinion. You don't have the right to shun other peoples' opinions with yours. This is how I feel, and you have no right to make such crude remarks that attempt to completely subject peoples' opinions to a level of apparent idiosyncracy.
