Dance Pads : Is RO Ignition crappy?

Please, this is my first post, please be gentle.

I am looking to get a dance pad, and I am pretty much a beginner. My old one was bought through ebay and I wanted to step up a little cause they were awful. So I am trying not to spend too much, since its also been a while since I have played.

I have finished reading through the "Looking for DDR Dance Pads?" sticky and it seems to indicate the Red Octane Ignition 3.0 is the one to get in my situation. Stepmania also seems to have this as top recommended for stepmania. However, i just went to amazon to check out the reviews and they are terrible, they seem to be unreliable.

I am confused that this highly recommended pad has such crappy reviews. i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for an alternative dance pad for someone in my situation. Definitely would like the be under $100.

Any cheap soft pad is going to have its issues. If you plan on playing a lot I would seriously recommend shelling out the cash for a Cobalt Flux or Blueshark.

I've never played on an Ignition so I can't help you there, I can tell you that getting a metal pad is worth it.

I have a pad very similar to this, and it works just fine

However, going to the arcades and playing is totally different, as the target areas of the arrows are big on the home, and smaller in the arcade

Go for the cobalt flux. It'll be more worth it in the long run
Funny stuff goes in this area right?

Re: Dance Pads : Is RO Ignition crappy?

I have owned the RO 3.0 for going on two years. I have also played at the arcade for 4 years.

To answer the OP: Both parties are correct; It is dead perfect untill X amount of songs are played and then it craps out. I was starting 8s when I got mine mine it lasted a good year of once-a-week play, but I assume that if I would have played everyday and clocked in some 10s then it would have lasted about a month. You said you where a begginer? If your playing 3s then that would be an awesome first pad to get. Playing sets of 3s everyday should last

Now if you ment you where "new" to Home DDR, and at the arcades you like to warm-up with Max 300, then read Dore's post and take it as truth.

Also Arcade sensors are bigger then RO's..or at least are longer

^^that too... the center dead zone is generally larger on soft pads than the center panel at arcades.

@Dore -- Really? I have a thick softpad at home, and if I stand in the middle, I'm always hitting an arrow. Maybe I just have big feet. Or maybe it's the raised panels.....

hey im new but im just saying that i have the redoctane ignition pad, and it ROCKS! Sure it might wear down in some time, but as long as you don't play too much like an obsessive monster, its great!

They're ok, but mine just scrached during a heavy 6 feet song,. And after 1 year of non frecuent use (once a week) but the last 2 months ,(everyday 2 hours)
I put some tape but i donn't know if it'll last.
keep in mind that stepmania steps ar harder that arcade ones.
                I've got this, they're cheap now, 25$.

If you wash the foam insert every once in a while it is an amazing pad.

Ignition 2.0s are really good, but you can only buy them online since stores are only selling the 3.0s nowadays. And yeah, I have an Ignition 3.0 and it's really awful. I think I've gotten in the 60 - 70% range on July/The Beginning with it, LOL.

I also have a Cobalt Flux and it's pretty bad for 11+ songs...I guess it's alright for anything 11 and under, but I personally don't like the feel with or without the arcade mod. In conclusion if you're going to get a metal pad, get a Blueshark. If not, get an Ignition 2.0.
