    A question on album sales.

I can do a lot of genres when it comes to music composition. However, I primarily lean toward hardcore techno. With this in mind, if I should ever release an album, I was wondering which way I should sell my songs:

-A general cluster of genres on one album.
-Concentrate on hardcore techno for the first album, and then move onto other genres.

I definitely would NOT do the latter, because that often results into big disappointments and such.

I'll have to think about the terrorcore. I don't know if I've listened to the wrong songs, but my primarily problem with terrorcore and other associated subgenres is the fact that they lack a real melody.

Everyone favors the cluster so far.

No offense, but you should probably get more skill and experience before you actually try to put your music on the market.

              That certainly didn't stop Basshunter.

Why yes, that is a stab.

                this is true.

you also need some killer art to go with most the things you do

Clever, but I'd like you to answer my question considering that you're (overall) one of the coolest artists I know.

My true and honest opinion is to release your first few albums for free until you really feel confident and then pull out all the stops for an open release.

That's exactly what happened with The Bridge Between, and that's exactly how I made over $1000 from that CD.

                          What he said.

Virtually no one will pay for music after hearing 30 second previews on iTunes or anywhere else. They have to be VERY sure that they will enjoy the music they pay for, OR they need to fee like they are helping out an independent artist they want to support with their money.

I suggest making some sort of website with an easy to remember url and releasing a bunch of free music over a year or so, and then begin trying to sell albums. And don't just crap out 10 tracks at once and leave your site sitting there for a while, release like one track a month and spam message boards about each new release. This keeps people coming back to your site and pounds your name and url into their memories. It also makes people feel thankful for all the free music you've given them (if it was good music) and more likely to feel charitable when they are offered either to donate, or to purchase music from you.

I'd suggest once you do release something, keep the style on the release similar. I think in general people like consistency. If you want to do different styles, put together several EPs, each of a different style. Give away a track or two from each to get the word out. Don't try and sell singles - people generally know if they are going to spend ANY money on you or not and given the choice between $1 and $8 or so, most will drop just $1 and call it a day. Don't give that option - make them buy the whole thing if they are going to buy something.

Those are my thoughts on selling stuff yourself I've been running my own web cart for my music sales for a couple years now and have experimented a bunch.

                            Hey, SGX. Good advice there.

                            Thanks, gentlemen.

I'm considering rejecting major labels altogether. If labels ever come within my range, I'll still consider sticking with the freelance path. A label is the last thing on my mind right now. I'm just trying to find an easy but wise way to promote my music.
