My attempt at a good thread, but not so good it has to be in critical thinking.

They say there is a perfect balance. I'm not so sure XD.

My keyboard randomly stops working as I type this topic :O. Not a good sign.

    Anyways!

Have you ever done anything that you regret, but don't wish to change? Something that you would not go back in time to change, but you regret it anyways? Is this even possible? For whatever reason I have been thinking about this all day...and I can't seem to come to a conclusion. I mean, you hear people say they wish they didn't do something all the time. I always wonder if what they are talking about is worth regret.

Can something be worth regret? Death maybe. But you can't regret it when you are dead. So aside from crippling injuries and such, what are some things you could do that you would regret over the fact that you learned something from the experience? Would you rather of had it not happen? But then how do you know it wouldn't just happen later, since if it didn't happen you wouldn't of learned anything from it?

Had to get these random thoughts out of my head >_>.

There's a LOT of things that I regret. Some of them are things that I've done that I wish I didn't and some are things that I did NOT do that I wish I had.

I wish I would've tried harder to stay in a relationship with that woman I met when I was 16. I would've had a long term relationship by now.

I wish I would've stopped my mom from smoking cigs so much.

Regret is just a natural way of smacking yourself in the forehead. Helps us learn from our mistakes.

But what about the experiences you get from doing or not doing those things? Don't you think that might sway other important desicions you make later on in life?

And I never thought about regretting something I didn't do, though that makes perfect sense .

Well, of course. By coping with all of my regrets I've learned to toughen up. And THAT is what I would not trade for anything.

I do know certain things, however, seem to be more fate than anything, so I don't regret it. If I would've stayed at one school every single year, I wouldn't have met all the friends that I have throughout my life. And most of them I still am friends with them, so I'm grateful for that.

I approach your question this way; If I could change the past, I know that I wouldn't be this person here today responding to you. I wouldn't have the friends I know, I wouldn't say the things I say, and I probably would be a totally different person overall. Each individual decision someone makes affects their progressive decisions leading them to a very specific state later in time. I'm glad who I am, therefore I regret nothing.

When you regret something but you don't think you should go back in time to fix it, wouldn't you think it was probably supposed to happen?

Regrets are how God reminds us that the choices we make today have consequences.

Everything I regret, I wish I hadn't done... I've never learned any life lessons, I was just born knowing them. You don't always have to earn wisdom.

Huh? How are you born knowing anything, save breathing?

                      What?

Lmao I'm not going to bother, there's no point.

Anyway. One thing I regret is getting with this one girl. I'd happily trade all the good memories to get rid of the bad that followed.

It's a floored statement, not everything ever made sense back then to me though anyway.

I regret many things. One thing in particular that only about 10 people know. I honestly wish at times that I could go back and change what words escaped my mouth that day in 4th grade, but I can't. I accept this and move on. Other times though I think back to what kind of a person I am today and think about how that influenced my actions and decissions today.

I will tell you that almost everyone will make a bad decission and regret it. I regret many things I've said and done and wish that I could go back and change those actions. I can't but I still wish. The worst thing that I've ever done, as previously alluded to, I do not wish to change. I have a stronger friendship with the persons I had problems with and have learned to watch what I say.

Overall, regret will happen to the best of people. It's something we all must deal and live with. We will all regret bad decissions for a while but upon furthur consideration change our views on the matter and think of how it helped us. Regret has a funny way of making us a better person.

I said regret after the stupid decission, betters you after more consideration. Regret isn't something you can easily avoid but it doesn't last forever.

I wouldn't change anything I've done in the past. Sure, I have regrets, but I am quite happy with the person I am today and all of the events of the past-- good, bad, or ugly-- have molded me into the person I am today.

While I don't like the movie, The Butterfly Effect is a good example of why not to change things in the past. Even with good intentions, there are unknown consequences and the more you **** with the past the more you **** up the present.
