I personally hate people who say "omg my console's graphics are better your suck!" You can have the best graphics in the world yet have horrible games. Let's take the wii for example. Its graphics are almost old gen yet the games i played when i used it were plain fun.
Don't get me wrong though Im not completely bashing systems with better graphics. The PS3 is supposedly the most powerful commercial entertainment unit ever made. Some of there best games blur the line between movie and gameplay which really helps you get absorbed into the game.

Graphics mean nothing. It is gameplay that really counts. Graphics are just a secondary meaning, along with voice acting, story telling, buggyness, and how much the game rips off anything.

In a game where the point is to be immersive, then graphics are important. I do feel that the games are fun and more immersive when the graphics are very good, but for me that was already happening last-gen.

The 360 and PS3's graphics are nice, sure, but it's not any more of an immersive experience for me than the Metroid Primes on the GCN were.

seriosly in ds vs wii you can make it the same, just not your mind, think about it they both can interact with the screen

I have a video of Satoru Iwata at E3 2004 talking about what was the Revolution at the time. Nobody had even seen the console.

Thank you. I've been playing video games for years and the old games with horrible graphics are my favorites. That's why the Wii's Virtual Conosle is awesome. Graphics-subpar, Replay Value-High. Some developers are spending too much on trying to make their games like a movie and not a game.

i am happy with NES graphics, 2D graphics or even horrible 3D poligon graphics, in my opinion the art style of a game is more important than the graphics.

take as an example god of war, final fantasy XII and metroid prime 3 corruptions, their graphics are not as good as a 360 or ps3 games, however the art style makes the game really inmersive.

and i think some ps3 and 360 games are taking graphics too serious. look at heavenly sword, (on of the games that would make me buy a ps3) the developers were too worried about the graphics that they didn't care about the lenght of the game, and i think someone said before that blue ray had what 50GB? PFFFT well i hope the developers start using those GB for more importan things other than graphics

I'm really getting afraid that we won't ever get to play games anymore. I'm not sure what magazine I read this in, but i qoute, "Video games are now moving towards being nothing more than interactive movies." I pray to god that this never happens.

To take it to an extreme, some of the best games I've played have been 8-bit. Everyone complains that 8-bit games suck, but clearly, they have only judged them based on the graphics. You cannot say that Zelda was made because of Twilight Princess, it was a hit because of the game-concept when it first came out, not the graphics.

But then again, I think you'll find that most of us here would agree with you in that graphics don't make the game, the game makes the game. So I find it useless to argue my point. =\

I really don't care about the graphics that much,its the story line/plot that I want.If it sounds good or is good i'll play it but if not then forget it.

Graphics are overrated.

Most game developers out there nowadays are pouring all these resources into graphics, and ignoring gameplay innovation and storytelling.

And the worst part is, most games with good graphics don't even push the limits. Halo 3? Sure, it looks alright, but it's nowhere near where it could and should be.

Fortunately, every once in a while, a game will come out that boast not only incredible graphics, using new core engines, but entirely new gameplay ideas. Specifically Oblivion and Crysis to name two.

I could say I don't care about graphics, but if I'm being honest, I do. I can honestly say that I don't care about them as much as gameplay. That being said, I'd rather play Super Mario Bros. 64 than Super Mario Sunshine. I'm going to choose these two since they're more or less only seperated by their graphics and gameplay. Sunshine's a great game, but I just don't like it as much as 64.

And if graphics are your only market for getting a game, I think you're a real moron. Compare Fight Night Round 3 on the 360 and on the PS3. Are you really going to pay more just to make the game look that much better? Let's even take another step back. Fight Night Round 3 on the Xbox vs the 360 vs the PS3. Going from the Xbox to the 360 there's a big jump in graphics. Bigger if you're going up to the PS3, but not much.

I guess my point is, there is a certain point in which a game looks good enough that making it better won't improve it all that much. Which is what I found between Original vs 360. More fun, because it looked a hell of alot better. Where as when I was playing the PS3 version, I felt like I was playing the 360 version. Still fun, but if I'm almost playing the 360 version, why not play it for cheaper.

If a game makes as big of a jump as Xbox to 360 (as in Fight Night) then the graphics have a better reason for you getting the game. Graphics -can- make a game better. They're just not whole game.


-If it feels like I'm picking on the PS3.. I kinda am. At least with this particular game. This is pretty much my argument against HDTV (Movies or Shows on an HDTV) v HDDVD/Blue-Ray as well. Why pay more when they look pretty much the damn same? "It looks better!" Uh.. if you say so.

since i played metroid i realized that the art style is more important than the graphics.

I believe that as well. But I haven't found an art style I drool over yet.
