    Yet Another Unofficial Tournament (Variable Prize Fund)

    Expert Final Round has ended! Congratulations to jimerax for winning, and to the runner-up, Silver_Brian. All credit prizes have been sent.

    Round 5 Songs

    Expert - RunnyMorning (SGX Mix) (Dance2) (AAA score = 53325 (5 goods))
    Tiebreak - One Minute Waltz (Classic) (AAA = 52675 (7 goods))

    Post your scores in this thread or PM them to me. This round ends on Friday, July 13th at 10 p.m. BST (2 p.m. Pacific, 5 p.m. Eastern)

    I've made the final round slightly longer (by 10 hours) due to IRL commitments.

    Congratulations to rshadow8888 for winning the Beginner division, and to AOD_ELEMENT for winning the Intermediate division. Your credit prizes, along with everyone else's, will be given out once the final round in Expert ends.

    I have decided to freeze the prize fund, as I believe it is high enough now. The final prize fund is 21,767 credits, which will be split thusly:

    Expert - 1st place - 5442 credits (jimerax)
    2nd place - 3265 credits (Silver_Brian)
    3rd place - 2177 credits (Liquid3arth)

    Intermediate - 1st place - 3265 credits (AOD_ELEMENT)
    2nd place - 1959 credits (Kalazor)
    3rd/4th place - 653 credits each (hullmo717 / lXD)

    Beginner - 1st place - 2177 credits (rshadow8888)
    2nd place - 1306 credits (Sniperz14)
    3rd/4th place - 435 credits each (I like it / DefconZero)

    Prizes will be paid out when the last division ends.

    Below are the current scores of all players. This will be updated as scores come in. Tiebrakers will be used only if there is a tied score. In this case, one extra day will be allowed for tiebreaker scores to be submitted. Any score achieved since the start of the round will be accepted, including tiebreaks.

    Any player who does not submit a score will be eliminated.

    Tiebreaker scores are displayed in orange.

    In the spirit of bandwagon-jumping, I've decided to try my hand at running a tournament. For those who haven't heard of me, I've been playing FFR for a couple of years now, and I've only recently started to get involved with the forums. Feedback on my organisation and running of this tournament is welcome. I need to learn somehow.

    Divisions

    There will be three skill divisions. Song difficulties in each division will be as follows, based on the 12 point scale:

    Expert - 9 (Challenging) to 12 (For Gurus Only)
    Intermediate - 7 (Difficult) to 10 (Very Challenging)
    Beginner - 5 (Standard) to 8 (Very Difficult)

    Songs may be chosen from any category, with the following exceptions: Secret, Purchased, Token, Skill. This is to guarantee that all participants have access to the song. Tiebreak songs for Beginner and Intermediate will be chosen from the division above; Expert tiebreakers will be chosen from the For Gurus Only difficulty.

    Tournament Format

    This idea is "borrowed" from the Official Tourney. I plan to have the first round as a free-for-all, the aim being to reduce the field in each division to an exact power of 2 (16, 32, 64 etc.). Subsequent rounds will be straight knockout until 4 participants remain, at which point the format reverts to free-for-all. For example, if a division has 42 participants, the numbers in each round will be 42/32/16/8/4/3/2.
    Round 2 pairings will be based on Round 1 scores, a higher score earning an "easier" draw. Subsequent pairings will be random. I know that this isn't ideal, but with no way of determining an adequate seeding system, it should suffice.

    Each round will last three days from the start time, with one extra day allowed for tiebreakers.

    Because I am in a different time zone to the majority of FFR players, I will try to strike a balance between making deadlines fair to people in different time zones in North America and convenient for me here in Britain. As such, rounds will end at 12 p.m. BST. That's 4 a.m. Pacific, 7 a.m. Eastern. This gives everyone the opportunity to pull all-nighters, if they so wish.

    Scoring

    This tournament uses a non-standard scoring system i.e., not the combo-based system used in the game itself. Instead, your raw score will be used. To explain more clearly, I have prepared a sample score:

    The score that I will use for this tournament is the one in the red box. This is the same score that appears at the bottom of the screen while the song is being played. The details of how the score is calculated are as follows:

    Perfect = 50 pts
    Good = 25 pts
    Average = 5 pts
    Miss = -10 pts
    Boo = -5 pts

    This score (41585 above) is then expressed as a percentage of the maximum score possible on the song (in this case 858*50 = 42900). It is this percentage that will be used to rank scores. In the above example, the score would be recorded as follows:

    Fractal_Monkey (48-1-1-2, 41585, 96.93%)

    This level of accuracy for the percentage should be sufficient (a blackflag on Exciting Hyper Highspeed Star works out as 99.98%), but greater accuracies will be included if necessary to distinguish between two close scores.

    Scores must be gotten after the start of the current round, and can be either be posted in this thread or sent to me via PM. You may submit any number of scores each round, but I will only use the last score submitted. I will display all current submitted scores in this post to allow comparison to newer scores. If in doubt, ask me.

    To take a screenshot:

    1) Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard.
    2) Open an imaging program, such as Paint (Start > All Programs > Accessories), and press Ctrl+V. This will paste the screenshot so that it appears as an image in Paint.
    3) Save the image on your computer.
    4) Upload the saved image to an image hosting website, one such as www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.com.
    5) Post the image in this thread or send me a link to it via PM.

    I will try to update scores as often as I can, most likely once per day.

    The rules regarding cheating are the same as in any other tourney here: don't do it. Things such as arrow slowdown, double setup and other unfair means of score inflation fall into this category.

    Prizes

    The prize pot for this tournament will be variable. It will be equal to the number of credits in my account above 40,000 when the last division in the tournament ends.

    The prize fund currently stands at 21,767 credits. It will be divided among the divisions as follows:

    Expert: 50% of total prize fund (10884 credits)
    1st - 50% of Expert prize fund
    2nd - 30% of Expert prize fund
    3rd - 20% of Expert prize fund

    Intermediate: 30% of total prize fund (6530 credits)
    1st - 50% of Intermediate prize fund
    2nd - 30% of Intermediate prize fund
    3rd - 20% of Intermediate prize fund

    Beginner: 20% of total prize fund (4353 credits)
    1st - 50% of Beginner prize fund
    2nd - 30% of Beginner prize fund
    3rd - 20% of Beginner prize fund

    Donations to the prize fund are welcome, and will be acknowledged in this post. My own playing should push the prize fund past 20,000 credits, in any case.

    Signing Up

    Signups will last for one week from the time of this post i.e. signups will end at 2 p.m. BST on Thursday, June 28th. To sign up, simply post in this thread and state which division you would like to be placed in. I'll trust you to rate your skill level honestly and place yourselves accordingly. For each division, you should be able to do well on songs at the upper end of the relevant difficulty range. I reserve the right to switch the placings of people who are obviously in too low a division.

    Please sign up with your main account, and ensure that you have played at least 200 games before signing up. This is to stop experienced players sweeping the lower divisions with alternate accounts.

    Signups are open. Good luck and have fun!

      Because your range of difficulties is a bit wide for my liking, and I'm in the middle of two of those divisions, place me in either beginner or intermediate.

          GamerShadow, I've had a look at your Level Rank list (which you conveniently placed in your profile). It's comparable to mine, so I think you'll be fine in Intermediate. That's where I would have signed up.
