    Albums coming out soon

This is sort of a dual thread concept. I just wanted to make a thread for to make people aware of some (possibly) very good albums coming out in the near future. In the same sense I was thinking people could post in this thread to talk about what new albums are coming out and why other people should buy them.

Ok, so on to what I plan on getting in the near future:

    Kaipa - Angling Feelings
    May 21, 2007

I am yet to listen to modern Kaipa. I have heard their 70's stuff and have an album but they broke up for 20 years before getting back together and making albums again. This will be my introduction to modern Kaipa and I recommend that if anyone wants to check out some awesome Swedish Prog-Rock then to try this.

    Symphony X - Paradise Lost
    May 21, 2007

Symphony X are yet to make a bad album and this should be no different, features 10 new tracks. No idea about track lengths but I expect there to be at least one epic (15+ minutes) song in there.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - In Glorious Times
    May 29, 2007

Amazing band who are pretty unclassifiable. At some points they are insane and heavy metal with avante-garde tones and at other times they can switch to calm sweeping music. They use random instruments at times too. Also have two singers, a male and a female. Apparently the female gets more time on this album on their previous release, "Of Natural History". I own OFH and can safely say that it's an amazing album but it can take a lot of listens to get into. Took me about 6-7 listens before I started to like it. This album may not be any different, so expect to really dig deep into the music.

    Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
    June 4th, 2007

It's Dream Theater. Need I say more. Well yes I suppose I need to. Leading off in the same direction that they started in Octavarium, this is their newest offering of probably awesome technical metal. I wasn't too fussed on Octavarium but their live album "Score" blew me away, so I'm still very tempted to give this album a listen.

So, there you go. Be sure to add these to your "to get" list and go ahead and start naming your own albums you want in the near future and why we should get them.

          Re: Albums coming out soon

I now have all of these albums. Tough to decide which is best. They all have something the other doesn't offer. Symphony X and Dream Theater have that hard-edge awesome technical metal sound. Kaipa are more calming and SGM are just madness but in an awesome way, but have only been listening to that off the computer heh.

Along with Gourishankar and Gazpacho this has been a great summer for music so far. Ok ok, so what to look forward to getting now.

These are mainly just new releases rather than in the future.

Anekdoten - A Time Of Day
          Out Now

          - These King Crimson wannabes are actually pretty damn good at making gloomy depressive music which isn't "emo". Seems there isn't a prog band that comes out of Sweden that isn't good.

          Planet X - Quantum
          Out Now

          - Have to love that artwork.

          - Keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater 1994 - 1998), guitarist Tony MacAlpine (Steve Vai, Vinnie Moore, etc), drummer Virgil Donati and guest musicians all combine to give an insanely high level of awesome Jazz Fusion.

          That'll do for now.

I have already bought the Gourishankar album. I'm going to be getting Dream Theatre's next.

            Planet X Quantum looks interesting.

EDIT: ShAiOnEi, why do you think it sucks then? Do you like any other Symphony X albums or what?

I say Dream Theatre as a joke 8) Sometimes even Dreame Theatre hehehehe.

Well, almost everything that's worthwhile in 2007 has come out and to my knowledge nothing else worth my cash will be coming out minus a few.

(This year sucks in music. I mean, when was the last time Chopin has made a new release? Bach? Pachelbel? What about Miles Davis? John Coltrane? Scott Joplin?)

Five albums that haven't come out:

Franz Ferdinand is coming out with something new, although "soon" might be a stretch. It's kinda recently announced and no release date has been mentioned, and it's possibly set for '08. Same with Something Corporate and Radiohead. Oh and obligatory Flashbulb albums: Human Action Network ANNDDDD the oh so awaited Soundtrack To A Vacant Life!

                    Might be missing something.

Yes all their other albums are very good quality this one just seems to go into more of a mainstream metal area that isn't even like the rest of their music goes by....it's more of a "dark" kind of album and it does not go well in my opinion.

thanks for reminding me about symphony x's new album. earlier this year i saw that they were gonna release a new album but i kinda forgot about and didn't think it would be so soon. it's their first album in 5 years so it better be pretty good. i'm actually not a huge fan of them but they have some pretty awesome melodies 8). downloadin dat **** rite nao

dream theater's new album was about as good as i expected it to be; not as good as scenes from a memory and train of thought but a ****load better than octavarium. the dark eternal night is my favorite song on the album, ****ing amazing except for the part before the chorus (iirc) when james labrie is doin some terrible singing

New Symphony X album is still awesome. They've done better but it's certainly not bad.

Also, Planet X album is really, really good. Pure definition of "Groove-Metal". Very heavy, odd time signatures, jazzy, just downright cool.

Also, Glove baybee, very steppable (if you can put up with lots of non 4/4 time signatures).

                            EDIT: Exciting news:

The Bedlam in Goliath is the forthcoming fourth studio album by The Mars Volta and is tentatively scheduled for release in late August or early September
