The Better Difficulties Project - CURRENT STAGE: Alpha .01

READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING TO THIS THREAD!
Here's my plan: Come up with better difficulties for these horribly inaccurate songs. Face it, they're wrong most of the time. Here's how it works: Here's the list below. It's incomplete - it doesn't include every song on FFR right now.

Do NOT simply say "XXX song shouldn't be 6 foot!" Give a good reason. EXPLAIN, in detail, why it's harder/easier than other songs in its category. Then tell what the level SHOULD be. Explain why it's harder than a song in the level below the new level, and easier than a song in the level above the new level.

If you want to add a new song to this list, tell what the level SHOULD be (follow instructions above.)

I hope we can all cooperate to come up with a good list of difficulty ratings for songs.

I think ff7 should be one foot (maybe two) higher, at least.

One of the reasons for its high dificulty is in the shear number of arrows on the screen at any one time, randomly changing the step pattern, and being of-beat/having nonsensical steps in some areas. It's also a long song, and you essentially have to repeat the same (hard) stepfile two or three times. It does lose a point in dificulty by giving the player time and ability to recuperate, however.

I'll say this: I can clear most of the songs in FFR after only playing them a few times (i dont do great, but at least i get through them). I've only cleared ff7 once in the 50+ times i've played it. You do the math. (besides the fact that i suck)

Besides, its definatly harder than Crystalis or Bubleman, which, in thier own rights deserver to be maybe a three or four (based on the few tricky parts in each), and yet are curently rated as harder. For ff7 to be only one step higher would be a misnomer.

Beethoven, for much the same reasoning, need to be another foot or two higher. Way too many arrows at one time to keep track of.

The only reason people have for sucking at a game like this is one of two things: they're new (which is cured with practice) or, if they're like me, too many arrows at a time give them anyurisms. Which is why i could make an argument from prolly half the songs on your list being a step or two too far down.

I realize that a master wont find any of these dificult, but you ahve to remember that the only peopel who're gonna pay attention to these ratings are people who aren't gonna be that great at the game, so the ratings should be more catered to them.

The difficulties of FFR will not be changed. No one really takes them that seriously and I doubt Synth wants to go back and correct 50+ simfiles.

              yes, no need to really.

You can just smash to beat everysong so they're all like the same anyway.

If your talking about fc difficulty...

              fotbb is like 10

              Caprice is like 13

              OMW is like 15

              Revolutionary is like 15.

Fotbb is a 10 step on sm....and it doesn't need to be higher.

Caprice a 9 or 10 foot? Hyro was just stupid when rating it a 10 on sm. Its got a shit load of turns and other spin crap and double stepping stuff at the same speed as FOTBB, it deserves a 12...even a 13, its harder than something like...snow or vanish into thin air.

Blank knowing should be 6 or 7 becuase of that part about 2/5 through where they go faster than they normally do and they do it 2 times so...

So, any songs are easy to beat by mashing in current FFR judgement system.
Over 10 level, it's certainly hard to count..., so I hope maximum level is 10,
or display levels in number 1-100 like DrumMania.

Blank knowing has a tricky part, but it's short, and other most parts are easy.
It's 8th triplet rhythm, and can be passed with no problem if a little accustomed.
The level might be 5 or 6 in my grades. Metalman is the same, too.

Correcting the difficulty on a step file would be as easy as opening it, changing the line of code which describes the difficulty, saving, and closing.... right? That's what I've gathered after a quick glance at Nestlekwiks tutorial on SF making ::shrugs::

I'm sure that between all the step-file programmers, they can have it done in an hour.

And i think a 15-step difficulty lader would be better. A lot of the songs (partcularilty in the 1-3 step brackets as proposed by Jimerax) are harder than the others in thier same proposed steps, but for different reasons. Like, "Dance 2 this" is sliiiightly harder than smb. Obviously, anyone who can get through smb can get through D2T, buuut those uncoordinated few newbies who have a hard time with smb when they fist start playing are gonna have a hell day with D2T ("I thought this was the same difficulty, agh!) until they get a little better. The first few backets, should, in theory, cater to discoordinated newbies, and we can work up from there. 'Least, that's my opinion. (I actually don't think d2t is any harder myself, but i played both right in a row and did notice a differnce in speed of arrows and # of arrows through the song, as well as how they're organized)

Besides, one ) should be the tutorial, or did you forget about that one? =P (lets find another actual tutorial song, too, fill that difficulty level in a bit =P )
