FMA is awesome. I want to finish watching the series, I've only watched 9 of the 13 DVDs.....
I have the manga titles #1-4, but I like the anime better.

Oh well.
I have a related story. Ever since FMA started on Adult Swim, I've watched and enjoyed it. A while back, I saw the movie. Also excellent.
Then, the other day, I had to go take a drug test for a job, then go to class after that. The problem is that the place with the drug test was right by my class and both of them are quite far away from home. On top of that, the latest I could take the drug test was 4 PM and my class started at 6.
So I went down to my local library to get a book to read for the time I'd be waiting at the school for my class to start. I was planning on getting the first Harry Potter book (coincidentally originally titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), but when the library didn't have a copy in, I wandered over to the graphic novels.
Long story short: I got the first two graphic novels from the FMA manga, and I must say it is good so far.
oh and ps:
Not the CN version though.
The dub of FMA is godly compared to some of the travesties I've seen made of anime. The translation may not be true, but at least it's not like DBZ...
Right, I watched the entire series and I didnt like it.
The movie was even worse.
The problem I had with the series was that it ended exactly how it started.
And in the movie, nothing was accomplished whatsoever, it also ended exactly how it started.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion, but...
*SPOILERS BELOW*
The problem I had with the series was that it ended exactly how it started.
No. The show began in medias res. The two brothers had already atempted to bring their mother back. At that time, Edward is already an accomplished state alchemist and is known around the country as a hero. Shortly after their first adventure in Leor with the fake philosopher's stone, the show backtracks to just after they tried to bring their mother back. From there, the story tells of Edwards becoming a state alchemist and leads to Edward and Alphonse begining to take out the homunculi. Eventually, Al is turned into a philosopher's stone, Ed is killed by a homunculus, and Al uses his entire armor body to retun Ed's life, as well as him arm and leg. Ed wakes up to find that Al used himself to bring his brother back and immediately turns around and does the same for Al. Ed uses his body and soul as equivalent exchange for his brother's, but somehow ends up on the other side of the gate instead (ie the world that we call the real world; the world of science in stead of alchemy). Ed then begins his life in his new world, unsure of whether he had succeeded in returning Al from within in the gate.
So basically: the show starts with Ed in automail and Al in a suit of armor for their sin of trying to return their mother to life. The show ends with Al living beyond the gate and Ed learning more alchemy so he might attempt to bring his brother back from beyond the gate. WAY DIFFERENT THAN IT STARTED OUT.
And in the movie, nothing was accomplished whatsoever, it also ended exactly how it started.
Nothing was accomplished? It ended how it started?
Let's see. At the beginning, Al is traveling around, presumeably doing good just as he and his brother had in their years of travel. Ed has taken to the world of science by working with rockets. Long story short: in the end, Ed and Al are together on the other side of the gate, in the world of science, with no plans of returning to where they had came from. *END SPOILERS*
So yeah, you're entitled to your opinion of not liking the show, but to say nothing was accomplished, or that they ended in the same way they started, is an outright lie.

The dub is pretty good for an anime dub. The voice actors are actually acting instead of just collecting a paycheck. However, I saw the translated sub first and I just prefer it a whole lot more. You get a bigger picture of things with the sub.
If you've never seen the sub, the dub is palatable.
The movie did end almost exactly how it started.
They were in the exact same position.
Edward ended up in the exact same place he was in the beginning of the movie.
