I'm wondering if anyone else has read any of his books, specifically any of the Ender series. I finished Xenocide today and thought it to be a masterpiece like his other books. I've only read the first three novels from the Ender series (Endery's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and Xenocide) and I'm looking for input on them to see different interpretation of the books and to fully understand them.

Re: Orson Scott Card
Ya, just by reading his books you can tell he's into some kind of religion. He strongly emphasizes the power of the church in the books of his that I've read. But he also makes some good counter religion points. In Xenocide there's a girl that denies all evidence brought to her that she isn't special and she continues to serve the "Gods" after everyone has seen the mistake. He illustrates how there are blind followers completely ignorant to the most obvious facts in all religions, but also how people can keep their faith in the most extreme situations to that person.Comment

Re: Orson Scott Card
Ender's series is fun. If you like it, read the Shadow series. Though I never read Shadow Puppets because I heard it sucked and the story pretty much ended on the third book in that series.
Personally, I think none of the other books are as good as Ender's Game.Comment

I thought the Shadow series were just the second half of the Ender series? I thought Ender's Shadow was about Bean. I'm probably mistaken though.Originally posted by SqueekEnder's series is fun. Ender's Game
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind
Ender's Shadow
Shadow of the Hegemon
Shadow Puppets
I'm kind of wary about reading Children of the Mind since I'm not completely sure what it would be about. And given the title I'm suspecting it's about Novinha in the nunnery and her relations with Ender and their family.
Edit: Nevermind, I just read the description of Children of the Mind and how it really is just a direct continuation of Xenocide. Peter returning to power, Valentine (young) discovering new worlds, trying to save Jane still, and getting rid of the fleet heading towards Lusitania with the Little Doctor.Last edited by scorpio1690; 08-20-2006, 10:31 PM.Comment

Re: Orson Scott Card
The Shadow series is about Bean. Bean is Ender's Shadow. Imagine that.
Oh, and I guess I was thinking of "shadow of the giant". I read three books in the Bean series with no interest in reading the last. Or did I. I don't even remember. I read the one where it ends. Or so I thought.Comment

Re: Orson Scott Card
lol There only was three books in the Shadow series. I think I'm gonna pick those up as well when I got and get Children of the Mind. I only read what Ender's Shadow was about, the life of Bean basically it said and the things that happened to him after the Battle School had ended. Shadow of the Hegemon has something to do with Bean and Peter I think. No clue what Puppets is about though.Comment

Re: Orson Scott Card
He has an e-zine out there that I'm trying to ferventley get published in. His crack team of editors have rejected two of my stories, so there's a good chance he's read them.

Re: Orson Scott Card
Ender's Game was the bomb .. supposedly they have been fighting over movie rights for it for years. He is from my home state of NC .. and I like a lot of his books other than simply the sci-fi ones.

Wow that's awesome Mal, I hope that works out for ya. Ya he's from Greensboro, there's a picture of him at the end of Xenocide. It's like conclusion to the story-BIG PICTURE OF ORSON. Kinda creepy.
The movie to Ender's Game is way in the beginning stages of production. They're guessing sometime 2008 release. Wolfgang Petersen is directing it.
I wish I was named Wolfgang.Comment

Wow, all 8 of your posts are pointless.Originally posted by lol_usernmeender's game is overrated as shit stop jacking off to it
I've read Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow a few times each, couldn't really get into the sequels but I intend to soon. I was amazed that even though I knew pretty much what was going to happen when I started reading Ender's Shadow that I still couldn't stop reading it because of how different it seems from his point of view.Comment

Re: Orson Scott Card
I really liked Ender's Game. But I couldn't read it more than two or three times (even with a couple of years in between) because it just wasn't as re-readable (ha!) as the rest of his novels.
I enjoyed the Alvin Maker series, but he got really mired in politics and that turned me off.
He wrote a bunch of books based on the women of the Bible, which I also loved--kind of like The Red Tent. Also a book entitled The Stone Tables which is about Moses' journey. Yes, he's a religious Mormon, but I don't think he shoves it in your face as much as people have mentioned.
Some of his random one-shot books are excellent. The Lost Boys, Treasure Box, Songmaster is BEAUTIFUL and sad, Enchantment...Goddess of Chocolate Sauce
