Don't like your AOL? Wanna cancel it? TOO ****ING BAD!
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(
In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.
So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.
Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =OTags: None -

Saw this on the news.
The guy got fired.
When we were using free trials of AOL, we knew exactly what we were doing.
-I would like to cancel my account.
Why do you want to cancel your account?
-Because my free trial is about to run out and I don't want to pay your ridiculous fees if the account isn't cancelled by the time the trial runs out.
Oh well you don't have to worry about that, would you like a free trial for 2 more months?

While that's outrageous, it IS those customer service ****s' job to keep your money flowing into their company. It takes me forever to cancel utilities.
Customer Service: And why are we cancelling today?
Me: Well, I'm a student, the semester is over, and I won't be back in town until August.
Customer Service: Oh, we could move your account to your new address!
Me: My "new address" is my parents home. In Mississippi. I don't think you serve them and I think they enjoy their utility company.
Customer Service: What phone/cable/electric company does your family use?
Me: What? Seriously. I plan to reopen an account when I come back for the fall semester. If I can't just put the account "on hold", I'd like to cancel it until I move into my new place
Customer Service: Is there someone staying behind at your address we can move the account over to?Comment

Re: Don't like your AOL? Wanna cancel it? TOO ****ING BAD!
The last time I tried to cancel AOL over the phone they said they needed notice in writing, so I saved the letter I wrote on my old computer, and whenever I had a free trial that was about to expire, I just mailed them a cancel letter.
No one calls and I never pay.Comment

My parents finally caved and got AOL again after maybe 7 years of dial-up through the phone company. Apparently AOL really does have excellent virus protection, and there's no service other than dial-up in their area, so they're okay with AOL, there's just so much extra **** the company tacks on that does nothing but clutter up the computer.Originally posted by SethSquallI have AOL. Haha that was great. Reminds me of when I used to work for a newspaper answering phones for customers and whoever else. Though I tried to get people off the phone, not on it. That guy was insane.Comment

Wow. Don't these people understand that once you've stated all of the "good deals" and "special offers" that even the biggest dumbass of a customer is NOT going to change his mind? I mean, it takes a dumbass to go on the phone and say "oh yeah good point I want my account nvm," but for someone to be persuaded from THAT... never going to happen.Comment

They did ask why, etc... I just said I wasn't interested anymore and they were fine with that.
