I just read this month's Game Informer...

Gaming is in a pretty sorry state. Every PS3 and 360 game looks exactly the same. Beyond MGS4, neither of those consoles have ANY games that look even vaguely interesting at this point in time. Like I said, I can honestly see no difference between any of the games being produced for either of those consoles.

The Wii looks alright, but so far it's just a bunch of rehashed franchises. Nothing original at all, despite everyone talking about how original it is. How ironic.

The DS remains the last console that is getting consistently original and well-designed games. But... I looked at Game Informer's review of New Super Mario Brothers; it was very positive. However, speaking to Kefit about it, he told me that, having spent time with the game, it really had no soul. This was something I had suspected about New SMB since I first heard about it. Unfortunately, apparently its lack of soul is true. Really, I don't even know why Nintendo would remake Super Mario Brothers in the first place. :/

Yoshi's Island 2 is the game I will buy a DS for. If Nintendo screws it up, I won't even have faith in them anymore.

God, I miss the days of the Genesis and SNES.

There are still good games nowadays, don't get me wrong, but they're so much harder to find. And the worst part is that no one cares about them. No one cares about soul anymore. They care about Halo 3 and GTA IV and god knows what other crap that's ruining gaming.

Sigh... Game Informer always deeply depresses me. I'm just glad that companies like NISA and Atlus still exist, or else we'd be in even sorrier shape.

a question for your extremely harsh views on all games and gaming systems:

is a nintendo DS worth buying(in your opinion)?

I think the Bush got a little too involved with the ratings and screwed the entire gaming world over.

          The bush?

What the hell are you talking about.

Moogy, for the first time in a while, I'm going to have to agree with you. I see no reason for me to purchase any of the new consoles, perhaps the Wii.

Re: I just read this month's Game Informer...

I like the GTA games and will buy the next one most likely. I don't care if you think I'm stupid for it. I think you're stupid for saying that the GTA franchise is "ruining gaming". The free-roaming style leaves a lot of options, and I think that is what made Spiderman 2 way better than the other Spiderman games. Halo I can agree is just super re-hash, that can be somewhat expected from Microsoft, but Rockstar at least tries to keep innovating. Things change in the GTA games, and they continue to get better and better. With the power of a new console to do more and cooler things, they're bound to get even crazier. =O

But uh, I think the main problem with the game industry now is that it's popular. The glory days of gaming were when everything was made by small independant developers. Video games as an industry are becoming very much like Hollywood movies. Nobody is willing to try new and innovative stuff because it's not economically sound. They go with what works and people buy the hell out of it. Smaller independant developers had nothing to lose, so they came up with crazy stuff. Those developers are still around to a degree, but they've been so choked out by the huge companies that some of the best games get unplayed, much like some of the best movies get unseen. It's pretty sad, really. =\
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

This is the good part about the Wii.

They have signed on so many indie devs and lesser-known third party teams to create games that will actually be fun to play.

PS3 = Everything on PS2's sequel. No improvement on gameplay, just graphics.

360 = Everything on Xbox's sequel. No improvement on gameplay, just graphics.

Wii = Everything on Gamecube's sequel and then some. No improvement on graphics, just gameplay.

Once their friends invite them over to play, they'll get one too.

People will think it's a gimmick until they play it for themselves.

And since I haven't played it yet, I'm skeptical myself. But I'll get it anyway. If it sucks (which I highly doubt knowing Nintendo's track record thus far), I can always return it.

I remember playing Riviera and thinking "Atlus rule" but then never playing another atlus game ever again.

I have 4 old school consoles and two are being repaired after 20 years of play. I'm probably going to get a Wii just because I like saying "Wiimote" lol
Oh and then I'll have an excuse for breaking the TV and then I can get a HDTV.
