    Batman Beyond

I was checking out the latest Sam and Fuzzy strip yesterday, and I happened to read Sam Logan's post that went along with the strip:

I really loved this show... it took a really lame sounding idea and crafted it into one of the coolest, most original "elseworlds"-styled Batman tales ever.

Seriously! I can picture the network executive meeting in my head right now. "We love Batman, but... uh... can you make him younger and hipper?" No true Batman fan would ever want to see a TV show designed to answer that question. But "Batman Beyond" surprised everyone -- or me, at least -- with its interesting premise, well-realized title character, rich universe and impressive original rouges gallery. And that's not even mentioning the really slick art direction, featuring some pretty incredible character design work from Bruce Timm and Shane Glines. (Shane is an incredible artist! I would link you to his website right now but it is totally full of naked ladies and you just can't take it!)

Maybe it did originate as a marketing-driven attempt to create a younger, cooler Batman, but the end result was still pretty neat. I mean, it could have been much worse. It could have been The Batman.

I remembered watching the show as a kid and loving it, so I did a little searching here, a little searching there, and...Bingo. YouTube hit the jackpot.

There was even the Justice League Unlimited epilogue, which has what many fans of the show believe to be the REAL season finale of Batman Beyond.

Just watching one episode, I realized that Batman Beyond is WAY ****ing cooler than I remember it being. This is some TIGHT ****, man. And if you've never seen the show? Oh man. Check out it.

(note: Some of the episodes have a slight audio synch error, but it's not too serious)

Damn you, I came into here expecting a sequel to Batman Begins.

Nice find, I remember hating this show though as a kid, but I had horrible taste then, so who knows.

I had no idea there was a Justice League cross over. I'm a little dissappointed by what the wiki says about it (I always hated those "oh btw everything is a lie here's what really happened" type of things), but I'm still looking forward to seeing the JL clip above.

EDIT: oh ps will friedle is rly kewl

I LOVE this show. It's probably my favorite Kid's WB show EVER. It's Batman in High School, except way cooler than Smallville!

Hahahaha, the first link (Season 2 Episode 6) when the joker guy tries to mug Trey while running away from the tribal guy.

            Re: Batman Beyond

I've seen every episode from my days of watching WB cartoons after school in HS like 4-7 years ago.

this, Jackie Chan adventures, some Pokemon, and some Yu-Gi-Oh... although the last 2 were awful compared to batman beyond and jackie chan.

There are a ton of old cartoons that I'd like to pick up on DVD. This, the original Batman cartoon that was like, 1-4 years before batman beyond, the Superman cartoon that aired at the same time as Batman... the X-Man cartoon from Saturday mornings like 10 years ago.

Man, Jackie Chan Adventures was badass too. I remember back like 7 years ago when they would show like... Superman "half" the time during that time block, and Batman the other "half". The usually ended up playing way more Superman than Batman, which is gay as Hell because I'd rather see a guy with no super powers kick ass than a guy with super powers.

but he did have billions of dollars to spend on top secret military gear, where superman had little money and had to have his mother make his outfit.

I hate this argument. The someone always goes "Batman ain't no super hero, he's just happens to have a utility belt." I hate this retarded reason, because it doesn't work at all. A perfect example is the Batman has a bomb defusal kit. Now, does that mean the defusal kit do all the work for him? Hell no, he has to defuse the goddamn bomb using his knowledge of the tools at his disposal. He has a chemistry set in his Bat Cave that could rival a top-class laboratory, but does that mean he doesn't have to do anything? Hell no, he's still gotta figure out that what he's looking at is a type of dust concurrent with the properties of the Joker's trademark cyanide gas.

Part of what makes Batman awesome is that he's always either one step behind the villain or two steps ahead. He's the world's greatest detective.

Plus, you think Batarangs are high-tech? They're his #1 weapon of choice, and I assure you, there's no guidance system on them. He's just really effing good at throwing them with accuracy. Pure skill.

                      Re: Batman Beyond

Its all Alfred. He's the real brains behind the operation.

plus, there is a big difference between "ultility belt" and "billions of dollars". All those neat little gadgets aren't free... the research for them isn't free, the upkeep on them isn't free. The batmobile certainly isn't cheap... who does all cleaning on the bat cave? Its way too big for just Alfred. Gotta pay big bucks to keep the cleaning crew quiet.

Also, his suit. Clearly uber high tech. Need I go on? You're trying to downplay my argument into one that you approve of, whereas I was saying something much more general and accurate.

Besides... I was semi-joking around with the comment. Clearly Superman would win in a fight... unless Batman bought some Kryptonite from Lex Luthor.

Alright, alright, I'll let this go. Just one last comment.

Brian Clevinger said it best: Any superhero/villain Versus Batman purely depends on whether or not Batman has 20 minutes to prepare. If he does, he'll win EVERY TIME. If he doesn't, probably not.

                          Batman sucks. DC sucks.

                          Marvel ftw.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O
