So part of my retina detached today...

...in my right eye. In the morning, at school. My neighbor came and took me home, and my mom has called the doctor.
I have this thing called lattice thinning, or lattice degeneration(I don't really want to explain it right now-go to Wikipedia or something). Basically, there is an area I cannot see out of in my right eye.

How did I discover this? I realized I couldn't see my teacher's face or arm as he stood next to the board.

Right now, I might have to get surgery. Not sure, that depends on what the doc says. All I know is that this is not the type of thing that will just "go away" on its own.

    Updates to follow(hopefully).

Fun. I've had my share of eye problems... things like Cornial Ulsers multiple times.... things that could have led to needng surgery, except I stopped wearing my contacts.

    I'm sure you'll be fine.

CORNEAL ULCERS. Stupid non-spelling hyoooman. Besides, if you CLEANED your contacts as often as you clean your glasses (ie, never) it's no wonder they messed up your eyes.

esupin, that sucks big-time. Eye problems are never fun...I'm astonished that with my family history I don't have anything terribly wrong with mine, but my sight is just slowly getting worse.

Good luck with the surgery if you end up getting it--maybe they'll throw in some Lasik or something for free

        glhf.

If you wear contacts, that's why. Those things are destructive on your eyes.

During my Junior year in high school, I got an eye infection thanks to contacts (turns out the solution was too something-or-other; nothing to do with cleanliness). Basically, it hurt to look at light. Any kind of light. I couldn't look past horizontal (0 degrees) or the overhead lights would hurt. I couldn't look at computer screens without turning the contrast / brightness down to 10. This time of my life sucked.

The title of this thread rules.

Though the subject matter is pretty bad.

Hope the surgery (if you do in fact need it) goes well... and even if you don't... well, get better soon.

Strangely, things like this never seem to happen to me. The only reason I've ever had to stay in the hospital was because my mother told a police officer that I was pregnant. When I wasn't sexually active. Because she thought I was ****ing my boyfriend, even though I wasn't. Fun; so much for trust. Guess I was just born looking like a whore or something. : P

As for eye problems, I have absoultely terrible vision, I'm far sighted, I have a muscle imbalance, so I have pretty bad depth perception problems.

ps: as for the not able to see thing, once I got a migraine, and rather then having the lights and stuff, I couldn't see in this certain area. It was really weird, because I just suddenly lost my ability to focus on anything. A few seconds later, the lights did come, and I threw up twice, but thats ebsides the point.

My mom has lost the top layer of her cornea TWICE thanks to contacts. Not fun. I've said it before and I'll say it again: contacts are way more trouble than they're worth.

Anyway, if it's a problem in your retina, I doubt contacts had anything to do with it. At least it doesn't hurt, right?

I'd be squeamish when it comes to eye surgery. x__x Good luck if that's what it comes down to. I think having a problem with your eyes is one of the scariest things you could have a problem with, but I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

Eek! I hate eye problems. This one time when my hair was still 10" long I got this horrid eye infection. My eye was like leaking pus and stuff. Then it crusted over and got better. Probably worst week of my life so far. Anyways, it sucks to be you. I hate going to eye doctors. I got glasses once....they were supposed to make things better. Not blurry. I hate optimologists. As of now my eyes are fine.

Only migrane I ever had was about 2 years ago. One day I got a headache in the morning from running in the cold. It didn't go away. It just got worse. I went inside for the night and I started watching cartoons. Samuri Jack came on and the light burnt my eyes out of their sockets. I threw up all over the floor. And my headache intensified like 3x as worse as before. I went to sleep and everything got better. Actually thinking about it, at my one friends birthday party I got a horrible headache. The light didn't hurt my eyes. Every step I took I felt pain in my head. I tried massaging my eyes and forhead, ice, I even took some tylenol. Nothing worked. Then I woke up and they were all naked coming back from streaking. Great times....

Back when I was a kid, I wore an eye patch becaue we needed to get my bad eye to work more.
I seriously could have gone blind as a little kid. Imagine where I would be now then :>

ps: Yeah watching tv with a migraine is absolutely horrible, and will make it so much worse. And seriously, I have never had ANYTHING help with the pain of a migraine. I dunno, I've sprained my ankle pretty badly before, and people say that hurts really badly. I say that is nothing compared to the pain of the migraines I get. Also, I know what you mean by the with every step it hurts more, I've had migraines where I can't look up or I feel like a knife is being driven into my head.

OK, here's the scoop- we get to Boston in 1 hour(10:30 Am, maybe), but there's no parking at the place. Super. We try to get a valet, but the guy blows us off. So, we drive to a parking garage for MA General Hospital. All this time, I have to pee.

So we get to the office and see the doctor, but she can't find anything wrong. She sends me to another floor of the building to get my field vision checked (I had to sit there for an hour and a half, flipping through the same Smithsonian Magazine my mom brought home from her office last month), but that turns out OK, too.

First I saw this flashing in my right eye, sort of like when you get up too quickly. The only thing they could think of it that I had an occular migraine, which is a migraine with a visual disturbance(like not being able to see for a while out of a section of your eye) and no pain. Weird, because I have classic migraines(mondo pain and a different visual disturbance).

I've had cryo on my right eye a few years ago to patch up holes in my lattice(the part) of the eye that separates liquid from the eye cones(aka what makes you see). Cryo isn't actually surgery because they don't cut into anything. Instead, they stick a freezing probe in your eye and injure it, to force it to grow scar tissue, which will patch up the holes. Not fun, but I got to wear an eye patch- someone even gave me a seat on the subway on the way back.

But yeah. We got yelled at by 2 different cops for not moving fast enough through an intersection, yet we got directions from a beggar and a free slice of pizza from some cashier lady in a cafe. We got home 6 PM.

                              I just hope I don't bomb the 3 tests I have tomorrow.

In case you missed all of that, I am 100% OK now. Crisis averted.

PS-Benny:go to the doctor and get him to prescribe you some Imitrex, or buy some Advil Migraine or something.
