I'm expecting 9999999999999999^999999999 FF/Kingdom Hearts replies. Both those series have terrible music (compared to other stuff) btw.
Anyway... I bet you're thinking "Oh that Moogy, what a card... he's going to whore Disgaea or Xenogears some more!!!" Despite the beauty of Xenogears' soundtrack, no. I am going to go with a game I doubt the vast majority of you have played: SaGa Frontier II.
SFII has the best music of any game ever created. The music alone makes the game worth playing. I'm not kidding. The gameplay is atrocious, but the music plays a big part in making this strange, underrated game worth playing. The story and graphics are also far beyond most games (the graphics are the best on the Playstation, and probably the best ever), but that's not that point here. The point is that every single song is undeniably amazing. I've sent it to people who don't even listen to VGM and Masashi Hamauzu (the composer) always ends up on their top 10 artists list. He is my #3 on last.fm. Hamauzu is a musical genius, and it's a shame that so few people have played SFII or Unlimited SaGa ("lol unlimited saga sucks lol" no it doesn't, you haven't even played it - if you have played it, you're wrong and you don't know how to judge games), both of which are composed by Hamauzu.
Another game Hamauzu did? FFX. That's why its soundtrack doesn't suck completely. Uematsu destroyed any potential it had though.
In conclusion: Play SFII and Unlimited SaGa. They have better music than any other games ever made.
Comedy option: Rhapsody
