    The Weather Man

There are some pretty shameless spoilers in here, but I'm going to tell you why you shouldn't care in the first place.

So, I thought it was unbelievably terrible.

To start off, I went just because I wanted to hang out with friends. I really don't like Nicholas Cage, but I could tolerate him in movies where he's playing the idiot (The Rock) or kook (National Treasure). I heard this movie was about his home life being pretty bad even though he's getting a great job.

I thought, "Well, there'll probably be some other interesting things going on." Boy was I wrong.

This movie was all about how much his life sucks. I think his name was Dave, but I'm not sure. We'll go with that. Is this movie about anything else? Nope. Just how he's a bad father, ex-husband, son, et cetera. I saw this coming with the first scene, but I still hoped and was disappointed.

That's another thing this movie did: disappoint. I thought that surely he would kill himself because his life sucked so badly, and he was even given the perfect opportunity to do so, but no, he didn't. Did he take the opportunity to fire an arrow straight into that guy's neck? Nope.

Everything that could have possibly made that movie interesting never happened.

The friends with whom I went all liked it. I asked, what was good about that movie? The only answer I got was from a guy who started spouting off things. Characters, character development was great, the writing was good, couldn't complain about the cinematography... Did any of these make the movie good? I noticed that he didn't mention the story. Why? Because there was none. It's known from the beginning that he may get a huge promotion and his dad is dying. Well, ultimately, he gets the promotion and his dad dies. The rest of the movie he's trying to make things good with his family. Does he ever? No. He's still a crappy father, can't cut it as a husband, and is a loser son, despite the fact that he's making a million dollars a year.

He tries and tries, but he's still a douchebag and a screwup. Sure, you can't complain about the cinematography. The characters and writing were good, I guess, but only because they fit the movie. In order to show how much of a screwup Dave was, everyone had to be cold and unresponsive to him. This illustrated the point beautifully, but it made for a BORING-ASS MOVIE. The characters never developed, either! He was still a screwup who tried (and failed, at everything), his wife was still the fed-up ex-wife who cared but couldn't put up with him any more. His son never changed, his daughter warmed up to him (only improvement in relationship in the entire movie), his dad never changed. I just don't understand it.

I liken this movie to Welcome to the Dollhouse, another movie SOLELY about how someone's life just plain sucks. That's also the worst movie I've ever seen. If you don't like being depressed after movies (I wasn't, but my friend was), don't go see this. Hell, if you don't like seeing terrible movies, don't see it.

    Just plain don't see it.

    RE: The Weather Man

I was looking forward to this movie. I like Nicholas Cage. This is disappointing.

      RE: The Weather Man

So this is kind of like the opposite of The Family Man?

Hmmm...I had heard good things. I like Nicholas Cage...or at least I picture myself liking him in this role. I also heard that it was fairly funny, in a darker humor...I may have to decide for myself on this one.
I'll trade you this delicious doorstop for your crummy old danish.
        Done, and done.

if you don't like Nic Cage do you not like Raising Arizona?

cause that would be a damn shame...

While many times I have questioned your taste, you have also proven yourself many times to have exceptionally high taste. So I'm going to respect your opinion and not see the movie.

I will actually recommend this movie to some of my friends who have more artsy tastes. Like I said, a couple of my friends liked it. I honestly don't know why, but I suppose there's some redeeming factor to it. It has been my experience, however, that there wasn't anything to like about it.

Take, for instance, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Yawn. I really didn't think it was all that great, but for that I could at least recognize that there are things to be respected about the movie and that certain people would like it.

The Weather Man, though, I dunno. I've searched and searched and can't find any reason for anyone to watch this movie. Maybe I'm missing it this time, but I still recommend that people who like awesome things (Omega, et al) don't see this, because it sure as hell isn't awesome, whatever it may be.

And talisman, I did like Raising Arizona. Not a typical Nicholas Cage film.

                    Re: The Weather Man

I went to see this with my friends for one of their birthdays, and none of us liked it... I only partly liked the archery, because I know how to use a bow and arrow (yay camp ^o^). But they said that you had to do some stuff that you didn't to get a bulls-eye.
