I would like to inform you that the US Secretary of Education has officially announced the 2005 Blue Ribbon Schools on its website http://www.ed.gov/programs/nclbbrs/awards.html.
Nationally, there were 245 public and 50 private schools named as Blue Ribbon recipients. Of the 245 public schools being recognized, 38 are high schools. That is, THS is one of 38 public high schools across the nation to receive the Blue Ribbon Award. NJ has 1 private school and 3 public schools on the list (Tenafly High School; Parkway Elementary School in Mount Laurel; Sea Girt Elementary School in Sea Girt; St. Vincent Martyr School in Madison).
Note about award: President George W. Bush and the United States Congress have consistently stressed accountability for results for all students. To help reward successful schools, the U.S. Secretary of Education established this prestigious award to honor elementary and secondary schools that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at the highest levels.
Tenafly High School was qualified in the latter area and was nominated by the New Jersey Commissioner of Education, William Librera. The process included a 21 page application form that examined all aspects of the school program including test scores, student demographics, staff attendance, mission and vision statements, special programs, curriculum, and indicators of academic success. The test data summarized student performance on SAT, HSPT/HSPA, and Advanced Placement Tests for the past five years.
The Principal and a teacher are invited to attend the No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Ceremony in Washington, DC November 10-11.
