Does FFR run too slow? Small solution inside. *edited 10/23*

Note: Sorry, I forgot this thread existed. I actually found out this info months ago, but never posted it.

Becuase of the way Opera loads files, this doesnt work well with 56k. Broadband recommended strongly.

After much testing, I have concluded that this method for increasing speed is useless. Because of the way Opera loads files, all songs have a 70% chance of being off-beat, which pretty much offsets the benefits gained.

You see, the speed of FFR is limited by your processor, but if you reduce the demand on the processor, it'll run faster.

A way to do this is to make the FFR window smaller. To do this, we need to use Opera (only ver 6) or any other browser that has a zoom-in function. You can skip down to the bolded text if you do.

    To get Opera go here
    1 go to download
2 go to opear archive section, on the top right
3 click on the folder with the name of you operating system
4 select version (605 is recommended, this trick does not work ith 701)
5 click the folder with the intials of the language you want Ex. en= English
6 if you have java installed already, click std. if not, click java. If unsure, click java and install it anyway.
    7 download and install

    Now, for the actual trick.
1 load up FFR (the window may not display for some users, but it will fix in the next step)
    2. go up to the zoom function, and select anything lower than 100%. 80% seems to work best.

The FFR window will be smaller, but it will run much smoother. It's up to you to find balance.

    FAQ

    1) Why doesnt opera load songs? FFR loads fine, but then when I click on a song, it immediatly goes to 100% and starts playing. But there's no background and the steps are horribly off-beat.

This is why broadband is recommended, and it has to do with the way Opera loads files. There is no fix for this, and there never will be.

    2) FFR doesnt even load up, there's just a blank space where the FFR window should be.

you need to install Flash 7

Also, if you have some of the programs in the background, it would better to close them. And have one browser at a time.

SotN's steps also have work weith some forms onf netscape/

It'd be nice to be able to lower the quality even more. Like maybe have that button set to go up to 5 instead of 3. At 2 the backgrounds would be gone, and at 1 the music would be gone as well as the backgrounds. The reason for this being I like to play this at school during TIK (computer programming where we don't do anything yet), but they don't have sound and are soooo bad that I still end up missing half the arrows on Mario with the quality on one. We can't download anything on them either.

java= version with Java (install this if you're installing opera for the first time, if you're not sure, download this anyways)

std= verison without, only if you already have java.

do you hear the music in the background? if you do, change the zoom from 100 to some other number, it'll force the FFR screen to show up.

if you don't, well, I've never heard of this happening, and haven't had it happen to me myself.

the only things that show up are the arrows on the top and the background banners for some songs, and the only thing that i hear is the applause and cheering the the beginning of each song, then it's a stalemate and i have to press random arrows to quit the game.
the thing is the songs dont load, that might be why the steps arent there.

So will that solve the problems of the arrows being off beat with the music that occurs in every single song? I'm running a 980 mhz P3 processor (I know it's outdated so any schmuck who wants to remind me can go ahead and go down as an idiot in my book). All I'm saying is that it seems ridiculous that I'd have to have a top-of-the-line processor simply to be able to play without getting screwed on the arrows.

You can just go into the temporary internet files and run FFR. You dont need opera.
