    Raw Manga

Just curious...does anybody know where to find raw, untranslated manga? All the manga I find has been translated...those dirty bastards. Not particularly interested in flavor of the week series or series that have been made popular by the American otaku fanbase etc...I guess it's just me, but those don't seem to be as good. Plus they tend to lack a real storyline. Those tend to go along the lines of main character is a loser/weakling/outcast and he struggles to defeat the villian/get the girl/save the world. No thanks.

Anyways. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out.

    Japan.

    Or eBay.
I watched clouds awobbly from the floor o' that kayak. Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an' tho' a cloud's shape nor hue nor size don't stay the same, it's still a cloud an' so is a soul. Who can say where the cloud's blowed from or who the soul'll be 'morrow? Only Sonmi the east an' the west an' the compass an' the atlas, yay, only the atlas o' clouds.

Why didn't you pick some up while in Japan? That's what I'd have done.

That's a mainstay of all storytelling. Manga is nothing special in that department.

It really isn't that big a deal - sure a bit is lost in translation, but if you're going to go out of your way to get that bit that's lost, you're really just wasting energy.

Sales of Japanese/foreign books, journals (including electronic journals), magazines, CD-ROMs, audio-visual software, stationery, and educational and library equipment/systems; electronic information services; publishing; production of audio-visual software; production of bibliographic databases; management of theaters and an art gallery

I'm pretty sure you can find what you are looking for at Kinokuniya Bookstore. It's a big chain similar to Barnes and Noble. I've been to both the Kinokuniya in Shinjuku and the one in LA. They have tons of manga, and magazines. Their novel selection wasnt all that great though. You'll probably only find famous authors.

The store in LA is located in Little Tokyo - which, contray to popular belief, is nothing like Tokyo. It's in this open-air shopping center, next to a Japanese market (which sells 6 packs of ラムネ for only 4.89, good deal). The book store also carries Japanese music and movies. But the music is heavily over priced and they only carry the popular groups like SMAP or Orange Range.

Be sure to check the store out if you are ever in Downtown LA. The manga is priced well too, cheaper than the translated comics.

I did get some while I was in Japan. I got some GTO and some One Piece. Also, my friend gave me this one called Blackjack about this like...surgeon who is a freaking genius and he like fights crime kind of. It's insane. He also gave me two sex story mangas haha.

I know where to find actual books and stuff, I was just wondering about, you know, places on the internet I can get (download) them.

It's not really a "bit" that's lost in translation. It's a lot. I read this manga in English, and then I read it in Japanese, and so many questions I had were answered and parts that didn't make sense, well, did.

Afrobean: Manga is special when it comes to stories. There are stories about everything. When people think of manga, they, unfortunately, think of series like DBZ, Naruto, Love Hina, Tenchi Muyo etc. Those are pretty generic, played out stories. Not to mention they streeeeeettttcccchhhhh the series out as long as possible for no good reason besides to make more money. Those mangas are bad.

I really like the ones I have because I think they have pretty unique stories.

GTO: An Ex-gang member who becomes a teacher in order to be around high school girls. People try to trick him and stuff, and people give him crap, but because he is an Ex-gang member, he is a badass and gets his revenge in awesome ways.

One Piece: The main character wants to start a band of pirates. This is a story about pirates so it is automatically awesome. I think we can all agree on that.

Deep Love: Ayu no Monogatari: Ayu is a high school girl that sells her body for money (different from prostitution). She doesn't realy have a purpose or a goal in life until she meet an old lady and a dog that start to change her outlook on the world. It's hard to explain the basics of the story without writing a really long paragraph, so I'll leave it at that. It's really serious...

Anyways, yeah, I don't know why I even typed this much.

I'm pretty sure you can buy manga and books online from kinokuniya.

Kind of off the subject: but you should really go watch the live action GTO drama. It differs from the anime slightly (in my opinion, in a good way).

Personally, I was never really big on manga so I didnt take advantage of the whole "hey there's manga ever, I should buy some." One of the brothers in my host family did give me a Naruto comic though. Too bad I dont follow Naruto. But damn, his room was like a freaking library of Shounen Manga. I'm sure half the members of this site would blow loads if they saw his room.
