IF YOU CAN'T DOWNLOAD FROM THE FFR SIMS DATABASE, COME HERE.

I'm posting this in Simulator Files because this is where all the offending topics are normally posted.

    POSSIBLE REASONS:

You are using something besides IE.

Solution: You may be using Mozilla or some other browser. If all you IE haters could stand to open IE up for a couple seconds, you can download the sims.

    OR

You have Norton Internet Security installed on your computer.

Solution: Go to your taskbar down in the bottom-right corner of your desktop. See the green/blue/black world-like icon? Right click it and select "Disable". Now exit your browser (if it is open) and open it up again. Download the file and it should work.

    OR

You are using a software or hardware firewall.

Solution: This does not apply to all cases, but it could affect you. Either disable your firewall, or assemble your internet connection so it does not go through the firewall.

Now, NO MORE TOPICS ABOUT THIS PLEASE.

EDIT: As of 10/12/04, the FFR Simfile Database is DOWN. NO ONE can DL from it until it is fixed.

I thought it was.. Use IE because it give you an empty zipfile with Mozilla.

Either way.. I get an empty zipfile with Mozilla and IE.. and I don't use Norton Internet Security.

The only time I've ever been able to download anything was when I hooked up my connection so I didn't have to go through the friewall.

        Opera works just fine.

For any browser, just save all the zips to desktop and don't try to open them with your browser. Instead, unzip them from desktop to desktop and move the folder to where it belongs. You should be fine.

There's something inherently screwy about the simfile DB, and I hope it is fixed in the near future.

It's kind of hard to turn off the university firewall. There are issues with zmp3ree or whatever it is. I hope we get a better module up sometime soon, or maybe something that's not a module but still works.

They FFR Simfile DB is down right now, it will probably be back up in a few days and you can download files, then.

IF YOU ARE THE BOMB YOU WILL CLICK THIS and if you dont, you suck.

Also, sometimes if I click the back button in the DB, a HUGE thing of code comes up and freezes the browser. Just something you might be able to fix, or you probably already know.

that is just the actual data being parsed (i think) and that's how the browser interprets the binary data being passed

                    thta's my theory at least...

since i downloaded SP2 for windows, I can't DL the simfiles even using IE... I have no firewall and i turn off norton, so I don't know what the problem is... I get the numerical zip file that's empty like i do with mozilla with IE now... any suggestions?

That's what happens here, too. I'm not using a firewall or anti-virus, I do have SP2, I'm using IE and I'm still getting empty ZIP folders and book's worth of code whenever I hit F5.

I assumed it was SP2, partially because it stopped working after I got SP2 and partially because SP2 seems to screw up almost everything on the internet.
