I enjoyed VSRG from a young age, really young age. I remember playing stepmania on my dads computer when I was in 3rd grade. I enjoy typing letters, I enjoy writing them too. Most of all, I like long drives at night. I know not many people even know who I am here, which is okay, I'd like to pretend that people care though, I have lost my ability to do these things (atleast without needle pain). I feel like I have lost everything now, I cant really drive anywhere outside of a 10 minute interval (to work and back). I now am forced to type very slowly, otherwise my other fingers don't move. I'm afraid that this was the end of my time here, the end of my time playing rhythm games. It's upsetting. I remember watching and talking to people, even competing in a few tournaments. I really miss getting home from school and trying to set a score I was proud of, specifically, I will miss sitting on the bus from school and looking up etterna videos while I waited to get home, and messaged in the local arcade discord that I would play iidx that day. All the time went away it seems lol. Such a small game, such a huge meaning. I guess other people could look at it a bit differently. It really sucks.
During the tournament, I got carpal tunnel, and now I feel like I have lost all my hobbies.

Dang, that really sucks and I'm sorry for your situation. Carpal tunnel does take a long time to recover, but you'll get back to shape. That still doesn't stop you from enjoying VSRG content or interacting with your communities - we're here when you need support. Whishing you the best!

Re: During the tournament, I got carpal tunnel, and now I feel like I have lost all my hobbies.
Hello! I used to play 4key vsrgs for a good few years. I started in 2018 as an osu!mania player, eventually picking up Etterna, FFR, and briefly quaver along the way. I never ended up getting insanely good, but I was really dedicated for years. Over my time of play, I've injured my left hand twice. First in 2019 playing osu!mania, essentially trying to push into difficulties way above my comfort zone. I dealt with pain and some occasional numbness, but eventually i got back to playing with more limited raw speed in my left hand. and i kept playing and started approaching new skill peaks until my second injury. My second injury was during OT 15 back in 2022. between months of heavy grinding on both etterna and FFR i ended up with a very similar injury in my left hand that has left me with more limited mobility in my left index finger. I continued playing for a while using my ring finger instead of my index finger and was able to push back into low d6 for a while, but i've never really been able to play at peak skill level since and at this point i've basically moved on from playing.
Injuries from rhythm games are all too common and incredibly unfortunate, but that doesn't mean you need to give up on your love for the game. In time your injury will (likely) heal and you may be able to return to playing in some capacity. Even if this doesn't end up working out for you, theres still more to do and be involved with beyond simply playing the game. I've personally found a lot of fulfillment in charting and organizing events for FFR, its ended up becoming just as big of a passion for me as playing the game itself used to be. If you still truly enjoy what this game is, don't give up on it entirely just because you're unable to play at the moment- perhaps you'll make some new friends and gain some new passions in the meantime.
Best of luck on your recovery and all the best regardless of which direction you choose to go.

Did you get an appointment to have your wrists checked ? Did you confirm it's really carpal tunnel ? Have you done steps to check for possible physiotherapy/stretches/etc. ? Have you figured what happened that led to the damage while playing ? There's a bunch of things worth looking at right now if you haven't done so.I enjoyed VSRG from a young age, really young age. What I'm trying to say is that, you should look into your options asap.

Re: During the tournament, I got carpal tunnel, and now I feel like I have lost all my hobbies.
A great transition from keyboard play is pad play, of which I highly suggest ITG as it's got a community very resembling of etterna in terms of content creation and poses a strong physical challenge if you want to get to a high level.
I have been around since 2003, played a lot of stepmania. While keyboard play has taken a backseat, I still play and enjoy dance games today and they are great with friends as well. Might be a good redirection of your passion

Re: During the tournament, I got carpal tunnel, and now I feel like I have lost all my hobbies.
Rapta had an injury and now plays index, far beyond skills that I thought possible.
Also, you were my rival in the tournament without knowing it because you were the only person with a lower rank than me, but you wound up beating me sorry you're dealing with this pain!
As Haku said make sure of the injury and get some professional help. It does usually go away with rest but make sure to /really/ rest it.
There are plenty of ways to stay active in the community here don't feel like you are just unable to be here now that you can't play like you used too

Re: During the tournament, I got carpal tunnel, and now I feel like I have lost all my hobbies.
Give it a little bit of time and assess from there. I'm sure there was a good bit of strain put on everything over that time, but your body should be able to fix itself fairly well. But as others have said take it easy for a while. it can definitely get worse if you push too hard.Comment

Hey. Just gonna say to take things easy (as everyone else has), and that you'll get better soon. This does not mean that your rhythm game hobby is over AT ALL. Just give it some time to recover. Get well soon <3Originally posted by _choofwheaties is cheating because they're real people and not a hot beeComment
