You used to be able to send out challenges to people on songs for credit wagers. It hasn't worked in some time though.

It was a really old thing that we had instead of multiplayer for a very long time. It was scrapped & never updated when multiplayer was born. Pretty much, it allowed you to send one-time scores to other players, so that when they logged into the engine, they got the challenge and could try to set a one-time score to beat the score that was registered on the other end.

You could include credits as a way of betting for these challenges as well, but has been long since broken. The credits won't be distributed most of the time for using it, and some people don't even get the challenges anymore (you could tell whether you had a challenge waiting for you or not by the giant shiny "C" in the top-right corner being next to the challenge & setting buttons on the main menu area.)

I really think it should be revamped & re-added, because it allows for a way of competition in scores & communications using scores without having to arrange with another person to go onto multiplayer, and people used to automatically get these challenges when they logged in, meaning people could create these challenges and send them off regardless of whether the person was online or not.

It was around when Multiplayer was around. I used to use it in 2009, it just never came back from the site crash iirc.

so why is it still there if it doesn't work and hasn't worked for a while? were there any plans to restore it at any point or was it scrapped for good? shame though, it sounds like a fun thing to try out as a means of winning credits

out of interest, was the winner determined by raw or combo scoring? i think i heard that raw scoring didn't exist in ffr's distant past but it's silly to do a multiplayer challenge with combo scoring

Yes... yes it was.

There was also a way to gain any amount of credits you wished as long as you had enough credits to start off with to make it easier. When you sent a challenge with a wager, it wouldn't debit the credits from your account until the challenge was played on the other end. So you could take all of your credits, wager them 100 times with shit scores to an alt account, and log in on the other account and get 100 times your original credits, with the source account going deep into negative credits. This worked up to the credit ceiling at the time (8288640)

Raw scoring is a relatively new thing. I personally still prefer combo scoring over raw scoring
