    hello! i hope kommisar is ok with me posting here

    every year a site myself and kommisar go to has a month-long chiptune music contest/get-together with many different categories of chips. i noticed ffr has a lot of prospective musicians! i'd love for you guys to take part so here they are:



    - ADLIB
    - AMIGA MOD
    - AY
    - GAME BOY
    - PC-ENGINE
    - MIDI
    - 24K MODULE
    - PIXEL ART
    - NES 2A03
    - POKEY
    - GENESIS
    - COMMODORE 64
    - MASTER SYSTEM
    - SNES
    - ATARI TIA
    - COMMODORE VIC 20
    - * WILD_CHIP * (all chippy sounding things excepted! even daw/fully produced stuff)
    - ZX BEEPER

    as long as your music sounds remotely 'chippy' you can enter at least the wild_chip category no matter what software you use (as long as you state roughly what you've used in your entry). i'll be checking the thread regularly for replies but if you've got any questions feel free to contact me on #botb at irc.esper.net (http://webchat.esper.net)

              I encourage everyone to get into this. Even if you're new at chip music it's really fun to try out the different chips to experiment with

                  I am unfamiliar with the process of BotB. Am I allowed to submit songs made in Renoise? How can I compete without owning a handheld device, such as a gameboy?

                      hey!

                      renoise is acceptable under the wild_chip category for winter chip as long as it sounds "chippy". authentic chipmusic can be made on a variety of programs that can export to console-ready playable files; i.e. NES music can be composed on Famitracker. there's quite a few programs that can make each music like this for each format (with varying difficulty)

                          I'm pretty sure you're allowed to submit tracks produced with Renoise, as long as it's remotely 'chippy' (submit it in WILD CHIP).

                          Anyways, I'm going for 2xLSDJ. Going under Aquellex (lol). Hope you guys like the sound of Xanopticon in 8-bit.

                              :] famitracker's good! you'll be at least eligible to the 2A03 category if you use that on its standard setting (you can only enter one per category per account, but you can enter as many songs as there are categories! a few people use alts)

                              like kommisar said a lot of the fun can be in trying out new chips to write with, so feel free to ask help if you want to get to know the various ones! i put it in the op but a lot of us are on #botb at irc.esper.net (accessible via http://webchat.esper.net/) and we'd be more than happy to help you guys out

                                  interesting.

                                  I've used YMCK's little VST for FL studio before and made a little 20-snippet of random bullshit, maybe I could join the Wild-Chip side and see how I make out, lol

                                          I'll be doing gameboy, wild chip, zx spectrum and 2a03 maybe more if i have time

                                              i've currently done a wildchip & working on a 2a03; possibly a few other formats as well (more if i can stand deflemask)
