    Genre System Rehash

I think it's time something is done about FFR's current genre system. With 1680 total songs in-game, divided into 13 categories (Some of which are nearly empty, like Funk) there is a) not nearly enough room with the current genre specifications, and b) too nonsensical/random genre titles. Hell, we have a "Miscellaneous" genre for all the songs that just don't fit into the other categories.

With the Official Tournament over, and the tournament files to be moved into their respective genres, wouldn't it be a convenient time to finally reorganize our genres?

If we do decide that it is time to repair the genres, then we need to think of a few things:

    -# of Genres
-If we want multiples of certain genres to not clutter up individual ones
    -Titles of Genres
-Which Songs go in which Genres
-Anything else we can think of

I'm just here to get the ball rolling, since now that R^3 has you most likely searching for songs by genre, whereas the older engines have that simple song list where genres don't even matter. We should have a genre system that works, and isn't difficult to navigate, no?

    0. remove genres, keep song list and search field in-game (possibly sort by difficulty/alphabet only)

    or

1a. pick head-genres, specify sub-genres in a drop down menu, list songs for each category
1b. make genres a mere search option, remove the circular genre main menu and put emphasis on the alphabetically sorted in-game song list

    2. hf finding someone for coding and sorting all the songs

    3. possibly still no satisfaction

This probably cant be applied to legacy engine easily and I can see this caving on that fact due to the 3 engines and their 'completion' if you wwill

I think the genres are a great relic of the old days. I don't see how making better defined genres will benefit people. I never use genres to search for songs, but I like that they're there.

I think you're just too set in your ways to realize that this is a necessary change.

I hate the way it is right now. Some of them are so ambiguous, like Arcade. Dance1/Dance2 definitely need revamping, since it's really weird that there are 2 separate ones. (even though I know there is a cap on the difficulty...I think)

I mean really, if you're looking at a genre list and thinking it's too difficult to go through that process when you could just search up a song, then there's something wrong with the system.

As much as I like the genre system, I think it needs to be changed to difficulties : easier to upload new songs, there won't be any ambiguities and the categories would have roughly the same amount of songs. There's probably less coding involved too, especially if we keep the same number of categories.

At first, I was thinking to use the old 1-13 scaling system, because there's 13 categories and they have very recognizable names. Only problem is that there's an extremely varying number of songs between categories :
            1 = Easiest (6 songs)
            2-3 = Beginner (34 songs)
            4-6 = Very Easy (50 songs)
            7-10 = Easy (57 songs)
            11-17 = Standard (83 songs)
            18-26 = Tricky (133 songs)
            27-35 = Difficult (161 songs)
            36-45 = Very Difficult (185 songs)
            46-55 = Challenging (262 songs)
            56-65 = Very Challenging (316 songs)
            66-78 = For Masters Only (255 songs)
            79-91 = For Gurus Only (119 songs)
            92+ = FSO/etc. (19 songs)

Alternatively, if we use the 1-100 system :
            1-8 (123 songs)
            9-19 (132 songs)
            20-27 (124 songs)
            28-35 (145 songs)
            36-41 (118 songs)
            42-47 (117 songs)
            48-52 (147 songs)
            53-58 (134 songs)
            59-62 (136 songs)
            63-65 (111 songs)
            66-71 (133 songs)
            72-79 (131 songs)
            80-100 (129 songs)

I agree with this. Also the songs already have some sort of metadata for genres already, and they clash with the general aspect of the main genre system. I always hated this.
