Just as the topic says. Is there anything that would make you inclined not to download a pack of ~10 songs or so? It seems the precedent on here is that packs have 40+ songs.

Re: Preferred Size of Packs
some of my favorite packs are minipacks
honestly quality over quantity, and personally i prefer the majojrity of files to be around the same difficulty with challenging/fun stuff in each for example not every file has to be jumpstream but can have equally difficult files with freezes/jacks/rainbows/bursts. -

Re: Preferred Size of Packs
small packs are just minipacks if theyre good theyre good and they'll get downloaded regardless of amount of files in the pack

Re: Preferred Size of Packs
I have two prefered sizes
Minipacks of about 8 ~ 12 songs of pure canonical fun
And great packs, no more than 70 ~ 75 songs I'd say.
Around 45 is a perfect amount of files.
Massive enormous packs are very scary, may it be 150 files of pure enjoyment, I'd say I would prefer the pack to be divided in 3 or 4 instead of it all being in a single segment. It'd be just too messy to my mind, and great files wouldn't stand out very well too... You know, like when you want to find a good file again, it's just wholly better if you have some "exterior" landmarks so you can orientate your going more easily.
I'd say this is a problem linked with how the selection menu is built : there's no way to separate bunches of files in it, so when you make a pack, you merely throw every music in the same folder since you can't really sort them by category (for instance, difficulty, music style, stepping style (jumpstream and "squared" structure or rainbow fest)), so musics in a pack of 200 are all abashed and... when you have to browse every song linearly it can be a kinda big deal.
Now I have absolutely no problem with a pack of, say, 100 musics that is cut in two (just like Kommi did for Xoon 4 with these Red and Blue version hahaha (good times))
Even though, once again, I think I prefer regular "small" releases over the time instead of one huge release... that's just a too extreme and unbalanced initiative to my taste.Last edited by ScylaX; 12-15-2013, 07:31 AM.Suimega is my present username!!! Re: Preferred Size of Packs
for a pack with a large quantity, there needs to be enough variety to counterbalance the number of files, whether through different simfile authors, stepping styles, music genres, difficulty ranges, etc. if a huge ass pack only appeals to one type of audience, there aren't going to be many people outside of a certain elite clique playing. for example, dump packs only appeal to people that are way above average in skill (re: the minority that is the SM Scores thread), but aren't enjoyable to entry level players or those that play any other style that isn't spread.
minipacks are given a luxury in which anything can work, even if it happens to be very obscurely specific or themed. you can pretty much get away with anything, and still have variety if it's possible to have different simfile authors for each file contribution.Comment
