I've been going at this chiptune business for 5 years now. I still have no fucking clue how to do proper mastering or how to get a decent sound from my gameboy. The one variable that doesn't change is the raw recording. I can't make that any better.
Post-processing can make or break a chiptune. I'm yet to have a good template to work with. It sounds pretty weak on its own, so it needs a boost to make it sound "fuller" without drowning the limiter.
I'm pretty much done an EP I've been working on for a little bit, but I want everything to have consistent mastering on it. I need halp D:
This is what it sounds like from my gameboy
This is what I come up with post-production

It's sort of how I want it to sound, but it's not very...loud.
