    General talk about music libraries

I'm currently reorganizing and embellishing my extensive audio library before I proceed into feeding it more. Since I'm a bit OCD on the border I tend to research the information and content very rigorously and want everything to be as neat as it can be.
I'm nitpicking even stuff concerning capitalization, illustration sizes and destroying every bit of superfluous information (lyrics for example).

I mean, I see the organization of my musical player as something sacred and feel obliged to respect it. As if I was actually responsible about the care of the bands that were in there. It comes pretty much to the point where the actual content is representative of the quality of the music, or the person itself. It's ridiculous I know, but I can't help it. You should have seen my reaction when I saw girlfriend's iTunes... I obviously cared about cleaning it too.

So I'm curious about how you guys treat your libraries. Or if you have any tips or tricks that could help in the long run, like scripts or anything.

That's a thing, what do you do when the song hasn't been released anywhere? I usually put a picture of the band but never had any alternative.

I'm a complete perfectionist when it comes to libraries themselves, everything has to have artwork, labeled, and a full album/EP for some reason, OCD as hell
If it doesn't have all that, if its like a single or something, i just keep it in my music folder and throw it into windows media player whenever I feel like listening to it, or just stream it. I use iTunes for most of my shit because it seems easiest to get info and artwork

My music library is my soundcloud likes page, which is actually pretty rough sometimes.

45k songs ordered in (year) artist - album / ep name [catalog] or [catalog] artist - album / ep name almost all with tagged year, genre and imbeded album art...

                    welp

and 17.5k are lossless most with cue / log...

You just gotta love what you are doing I guess and be slightly OCD to acquire a collection this size. I already threw out A LOT of shit that I just had to "have it", if that makes sense.
Perhaps I should skim down again a bit on stuff that gets zero listens :X

I also am a small fry, I know a few people who have 100k song collections BUT I don't think they are as neat as mine

Also my physical CD collection is shit... its like 20 CDs which is very :'(

I get what you're saying, I was about to do exactly like you did and throw in essential listens until I realized I didn't really want to be "that guy" who swears that anything post-90 will never be as good and pretends listening to Charles Mingus or The Smiths every morning. Decided to keep it real and clean up everything that wasn't worth my time. That's about the moment I realized I absolutely despised The Beatles or The Cure.
Everything under iTunes now I feel extremely confident about, even though the quantity dropped drastically.

CD physical collection stands at 70 and still expending, but it's all my pride. I live for physical releases, it's just so satisfying.
