How do you handle power outages?

With Hurricane Sandy closing in on the northeast of U.S., it's inevitable that there are some power outages at the moment.

If so, what do you do to handle them? With or without a nasty storm coming by.

Gather flashlights/candles because I may as well be practical for a little while.

Then I just sit around and talk with family or sleep because our power goes out occasionally and it's mainly at night.

When the game isn't fun for you anymore, take a break. It's not a job, nobody here is professional and getting paid to play and force themselves to constantly improve... it's a game.

Speedcubing and pokemon games are all you need (at least until the battery runs out).

          Eating keeps me occupied, too

Re: How do you handle power outages?

Depends on whether or not it's a result of a storm.

When my dad was alive, he was a huge outdoor nut, so we have all sorts of camping gear around the house. So when the power went out and the weather was nice, he would just hook up the stuff and presto, instant staycation with the best tent around. With Dad gone, nowadays we usually go out to a half-decent restaurant.

If it's as a result of a storm, we follow the usual storm procedure: Flashlights, electronics, wallet, all the essentials, then we hustle everyone (cat included) into the basement, then watch the storm on Wunderground because mom and I are cool enough to have laptops.

Buy a power generator for backup.

                  Always have candles too.

If it was just an internet only outage I'd compose music
Otherwise I'd probably drum, exercise, read a book, talk or something like that
I'm not in the U.S. though mercifully

That's what i have a ds and a modded psp for. I live in Florida so it happens quite a bit when a good storm comes along.

sleep, read, handhelds, go out (assuming it's not because of a massive downpour or something) sudoku, practice piano, etc.
