    Side Chain in FL Studio

Was brought to my attention by ormix

IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SIDE CHAINING IS, it's basically an applicable effect with the intent of making a desired drum(s) much more noticeable and poppy by lowering the volume of everything else very temporarily

    1)
    Make a desirable drum beat.

    2)
Duplicate the kick drum (or whatever desired beat you would like to have side chained).

    3)
Take the side chaining channel and lick it to any empty insert.

Now you should have insert 1 occupied by Kick2 (which will become the sidechain).

    4)
On the occupied insert, apply the effect "Fruity peak controller".

This should open up a little box entitled peak controller, ignore it for now.

    5)
Next, pick and select whatever channel(s) you would like to have the side chain applied to.

    6)
Apply those channels to an empty insert, much like the side chain. Make sure they are not occupying the same insert as the side chain.

Now you should have an insert for your sidechain beat, and an insert for what you want that side chain to be applied to!

    7)
After you've done this all, right click the volume control on the insert containing your stuff you want side chained and click "link to controller".

    8)
A box should open. In this interface, click "(none)" then click "peak", NOT "peak+LFO" or "LFO".

    9)
Click "mapping formula" and click "inverted" then just click accept!

    10)
Now that you've done all this, It should look like below. Now go back to your peak controller from your side chaining insert.

Vol is basically how low you want the synthesizer/bassline/white noise to go. If volume is all the way up on the peak controller, the synthesizer/bassline/white noise goes all the way down.
dec this is basically how quick you want the synthesizer/bassline/white noise to go back up to full volume.
Bass Exactly what it says, control the opposing side of the treble.

You don't even really need to worry about the LFO's right now, the three top knobs are most important, mainly volume and dec.

    ------------------------------

Now when you press play, you can hear that wherever you put a beat in the side chain channel, the volume of the synthesizers go down and up, just like you set up. You can see the volume taking action in the mixer.

    Good luck!

Hit me up if you don't get something

    Tips:
-You don't have to side chain every instrument
-You can have multiple inserts all linked to the same peak controller if you're wanting different effects on different instruments, just follow the same steps except make sure you have remove conflicts unboxed

-Use the TNS curve in the peak controller, it allows you to change the desired volume with ease

This is a very well done tutorial.

I always use a fruit kick with everything turned down to initiate the peak controller.

Dunno if that's a bad thing or not ?.?

I prefer the fruity limiter sidechain. it's a lot more visual about what's actually happening in the process, making it easier for you to create the effect you want.

            either/or my friend
I just use this method as you can see the exact volume of each insert, it is very visual aswell !

I always do a ghetto sidechain where you take your bass and have the offbeats the volume you want and then just copy/paste it but then shift it over to the on-beats and make the volume a lot quieter for those... :s
