    Legendary Etude [9 or 10]

This file is currently a 9, but I feel that it should be a low 10.

It's fairly long -- one of the longer 9s. Although most of the stream is very straightforward sixteenths, there are quite a few uncomfortable runningmen. Also, toward the end there are 48ths are placed right next to jumps in the stream, which I feel can easily lead to goods. Finally, the ending seems very difficult for a 9. Even though it's only one part, it's all the way at the end, which can make it very challenging to AAA.

I don't think the file is very popular based on play/AAA count since 2007 so here is a picture:

A lot of this is based on my own experience. I'd be glad to hear input from others one way or the other.

not really sure where the runningmen are that you're talking about. most of the file is solid 9, with that ending roll making it harder. this isn't quite a 10 though.

They start around 670 notes in:
          674-682
          711-721
          727-739
          875-889

@the file being not quite a 10: I think if it were a 9 in terms of difficulty, it would have more AAAs. It seems to have a low amount of AAAs to me based on its difficulty and release date, but this might because the file just isn't very popular (??) I'm not sure exactly.

This can work, but I think it sounds easier in theory than in practice. Have you actually tried this before? I know you're not supposed to base reasoning only off of personal experience, but it caused me to get a lot of goods.

the question to ask: is it consistently more difficult than OtFD? It's different but I still don't think it's harder than OtFD
It's getting better all the time
I used to get mad at my school (No, I can't complain)
The teachers who taught me weren't cool (No, I can't complain)
You're holding me down (Oh Oh)
            Turning me round (Oh Oh)
Filling me up with your rules (Oooh)

              Release Date: 12-19-07
              Song Length: 2:54

              # of Times Played: 113,763

Legendary Etude is older, longer, has significantly less AAAs, slightly less FCS, and slightly more players and plays.

edit: To answer your question, I don't think it's "consistently" more difficult, with OtFD being much quicker in the 16th stream; however, this is the only difficult part; nail the second 16th stream and the rest is very easy. The file is short and simple.

Grace notes can be hit as hands, but still that ending is ridiculous. I'd say high 9 because the file flows really well and is only slightly difficult in that one section.

Re: Legendary Etude [9 or 10]

I see framer screw in the ending rolls, or at least I think I do. It's too slow to jumptrill as well, and doing so regardless is a bootrap because it ends on a 1(23) pattern.

This isn't significantly longer than other borderline VCs like Torinouta, which has similar symptoms of low AAA/FC count for their longevity, though there is a bit of a Max Forever effect with staying consistent in the 16ths when you know those rolls are waiting to bite you in the ass.

I'm okay with borderline files featuring patterns, speeds and statistics one sees more frequently in the next difficulty up, as it's basically a promotional exam. "You think you can handle this pattern? Try THIS on for size!" In my experience, it's common to get a lot of the low-end songs of one difficulty before mastering the high-end files of the next level down. So there's some overlap. Deal with it.

Re: Legendary Etude [9 or 10]

113,763 is a shitload of plays. Take a look at my Satanic Unicorn Orgy file, it has really few plays and its scoreboard is hilariously bad but it's put down as an 8.

Legendary Etude's ending is easy to trip up on and it has a few challenging patterns, but there aren't any changing patterns in between these rolls.

If it wasn't straight 123412341234 leading into that [23] jump, then it would certainly be worse. If anything, the roll leading into the [23] is very fluent so that part isn't that bad to hit.

I should also add that Legendary Etude is exactly 150 bpm. All 16ths are 3 frames apart, all 8ths are 6 frames apart, and all 48ths are one frame apart. The 32nds are consistently 2 frames apart or 1 frame apart depending on how conversion rounded it.

To all the "hit it as a hand" comments, 1 frame intervals are still pretty dangerous to hit as jumps or hands because it would need to be a cohesive jump; there is a good risk of a good happening from a split.
