    A tsunami warning for Andaman & Nicobar Islands was issued. Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service issued a red high-level warning.


    (preliminary reports said 8.9, but USGS reports as 8.6, so I'm going with that.)

    I actually found out about this through Chris Foy's facebook (for all of you ITG players out there). Not sure why he's all the way out there, though...

    In any case, I hope everyone in the nearby areas are safe. =/

      Facebook statuses from friends back in Malaysia reporting that they felt the earthquake.. condominiums shaking and all. Hopefully it won't be like Banda Aceh all over again.

          I didn't feel too many tremors and I live pretty close to Indonesia, but still it's pretty crazy. I got some Facebook status from my friend from Malaysia saying that he felt the earthquake...

                  hope everyone is safe. the ring of fire seems pretty active lately



                  we had a 3.2 earthquake here which even that is a pretty big deal around here

                      Yeah, haha, 6 or 7 years ago we had a 5.2 magnitude earthquake here. Everyone freaked out, as if the world was going to be destroyed...

                                  I imagine an earthquake IN Indonesia is better than one that's just far enough away to cause tsunamis, even an 8.6. I don't really know anyone around there, but obviously I hope nothing bad goes down.

                                              Talked to my friend in Thailand. She said she "felt it a little but it wasn't so bad"
                                              Then again, she lives in Bangkok so at this point she's probably somewhat jaded when it comes to these things.
                                              Bangkok's been through numerous riots, revolutions, and floods in the past few years, what's a little earthquake among disasters?

                                              Glad to hear there appears to have been no massive tsunami this time.
