At some point here soon I am upgrading the apt and building an in-house gym (namely just buying a power rack + bench + bar + weights) so I can do barbell exercises to my heart's content in private.
As for cardio -- I'll probably be lame and resort to DDR (namely the Omega pad + Stepmania)

Damn, given your meds it's probably best to try and straighten out your diet first.
What does your typical diet look like?
I'd start tracking your caloric intake and try to reduce it to 2000 calories per day. If you're feeling hungry (which is probably going to be a problem for you =/ ), focus on more whole foods, esp. fruits+vegetables. Get protein sources from dry, whole meats to help fill you up (chicken breast, turkey breast, lean beef /steak). Cut liquid calories beyond some milk as most liquid calories have little satiety value.
That should put you on track for weight loss in and of itself. From there, you can develop an exercise program but what are you interested in doing?
I'm an expert in weight training but you might have other ideas in mind.
Though, at a bare minimum I recommend some form of resistance training while dieting to maintain muscle mass.
it's pretty shit, lots of fast food. some home cooked meals like pastas/meats but yeah not a whole lot of fruit or vegetables, but i'm taking initiative now to improve it. the main challenge is not overeating though.
Take my word for it that either mountain biking or just plain running is WAY more rewarding than DDR will ever be. Running a 5k is way more of an experience than passing max300 will ever be

In order to avoid overeating it's critical you make a record of what you eat and how many calories are in it. At least until you get used to eating ~2000 cal/day.
If you don't like pen + paper or a word document, there are some apps people often use like myfitnesspal that are apparently good for recording caloric intake.
