I found one that is pretty cool Rebirth by Propellerheads (used to cost money but they stopped developing it and moved to a new one called Reason) but you can get a free CD ISO image of Rebirth at the rebirth museum. It emulates 2 TR303, a TR808, and a TR909

I have a correction for Reason:

Yes, you have 20 minutes of playtime. But you're also severely limited in that you're not allowed to save your projects or render your files AND you only have access to a grand total of 2, I believe, of the default Sound Banks.

These reasons (tee-hee), combined with the 20-minute-thing, are the only reasons why I have, for the moment, downloaded the full version of Reason through BitTorrent. I hate myself for doing so, and stopped seeding the file as of 8-ish weeks ago, but it was just literally impossible to truly get a feel for the software when I could literally do almost nothing with it. Once I screw around with it, make a few songs, and decide if I REALLY like, then I'll actually buy the software. Kn'a'mean?

Hey, here's one that runs on Mac and PC:
                      Sibelius
It costs money, and is pretty expensive, but it is a GREAT program.

More used for compositions rather than production.

                          Don't forget LSDj

Sabrepulse uses it a lot, I like messing around with it from time to time.

EDIT: O shi, just realized how old this thread is lol, oh well

Hey, it's a sticky. Can't really "bump" it.

True. I used it in orchestra, and I thought it was really neat. But I wouldn't exactly use it for production.

                              Add VirtualDJ to the list.

I'm thinking of buying SONAR Home Studio 6 XL

Would it be a good purchase or would you suggest something better for me to make music with for only $200
