Have you ever seen an intelligent flame war? Cause I havn't. Listen, I'm not trying to put down your attempt to improve the forums, I'm trying to help. Because you're telling n00bs stuff they are going to take to heart, and I want them to know the best information...or at least, the most accurate we can dig up.
I have, I've seen them all the time on forums where the policy on flaming is very strict.

I'll send you a link to UOSS Ideas Den. There is no blatant moronic attacks, they are purely

"Well you're wrong cause of this"

"No, this is why I am right, because this and this make it so this does this"

"HA! That doesn't work, no one will go for that"

"It's not much different than the system already in place, it's just changing some things"

".... I guess.... It's fine if the devs go for it"

uh, that's more like a debate, not a flame war. Why do people think that disagreeing with someone is automatically hostile? It is possible to disagree and argue with someone without throwing insults left and right.
Reach: there was this bee. i hate bee\'s...i tryed to kill it, but then it didn\'t die and it started making weird noises so i was like oh (#$% hes gonna sting me. i started running but i triped over some rock and rolled down a hill into the river.

There is always some insults but nothing major... otherwise, it's honestly nothing... If you were to take those same people and place them here, it would turn into stuff that is in the garbage bin. People will follow the rules if that's the way they are placed, and they will abide by them.

        So, you are exactly right.

Anticrombie, what we are saying is that we don't want the flame wars that go on. Debates, yes. Flamewars, no.

I liked the vacuum of space/speed of light debate we had. It was great. I know that not all of the debates are on that high of a level, but the only reason most flamewars happen is because we have someone who doesn't care and wants to go off on someone and LOOKS for the oppurtunity.

There are always those that don't care, and those are the ones that always ruin it all. That is why as a mod I would be harder on the deliberately rude people and really light on those that just have a little left-over ignorance.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with this one. I've said I've AAAd Uber Rave (and I did), and people believed me without my having to produce a screenshot. So no, you don't need to provide proof, just be truthful in the first place.

Yes Moogy. There are always those that WILL believe you, but the rest wont. This isn't just for you. This is for everyone so that no person ever has to get into a huge argument. Pictures save time. The game saves all your high scores, so even if you can't reproduce a score, you still have it logged.

i think this forum should have no rules...its a way of expressing yourself...if that means calling people gay, or postwhoring, or flaming so be it...no one can take away your free speech, but only to a certain extent can you be obnoxious cause then youll get banned...half of the fun here is getting into arguements, it just gives everyone a chance to showcase their wit...or lack there of...

seriously though if i wanted to start a thread about banning gay marriage, would i be breaking the rules...i guess we cant talk about that becasue its offending...i guess we cant talk about welfare becuase it will offend the poor...i guess i cant talk about my new stereo because someone else here cant afford one...i guess it isnt okay to post my highscores becasue it will make other lesser players feel jealous...seriously only one person can control the forums, and there is no reason to change things dramtically...these boards are a safehaven for thr youths, specifically americas youth, but thier are others here i know...well whatev, im running out of things to say here

uncontrolled you mean democratic and free, with all these mods and admins locking everything its more socialist than capitalist around here (tkae into account that i am exaggerating)...plus uncontrolled forums are what make them great, anything goes, you dont like it, dont post...the problem is people ruining serious topics...my proposal is to have a serious discussion forum...and people like me and anti can be banned from their becasue we dont take part in that kinda crap

If this was a completely democratic, talk-about-whatever-the-hell-you-want forum, then it would be. But this isn't supressing freedom of speech, its simply trying to put down some guidelines so our forums don't turn into a complete gladatorial deathmatch.

                          Exactly.

And by signing up for the forums, if you read the terms of service, you gave up some of your freedom to post. By posting, that means, when you post, you are to follow the guidelines. When posting you do not have that liberty as you would talking in a discussion in real life. Like the gamefaqs board rules say:

"If you don't like it start your own forums, on your own bandwidth, with your own money, and your own rules."

                            1. You argue against forum rules while allowing some of the words in your post previous to this one to be censored. That's a forum rule too.

                            2. Capitalism is an economic ideal, not a social/political one. I don't think anyone's economic stance around here matters, do you?

                            3. Mods are locking threads that have degenerated in to useless crap or there is no more reason to keep the thread open (such as someone asking a specific question and it has already been answered in the thread)

                            4. Listed in this thread aren't RULES, they're guidelines for etiquette. Nobody is forcing you to follow these, we're simply requesting it in order to make the forums a more enjoyable place for everybody. To me every "rule" of etiquette that's been said seems like common sense, but some people don't seem to have as good of a grasp on common sense as I do, and thus this thread was born

                              1) what the hell does that have to do with anything

                              2) capitalism is an idea of social standing

                              3) mods are locking threads people are posting on, if people are posting frequently on a certain thread, obviously people are enjoying it so why lock it? just to piss people off

                              4) Well if they arent rules they shouldnt have been called rules iin the thread name, adn if you really think youre gonna get people to follow your requests then youre insane

                                1. I'd care a lot more about being censored than I would about someone asking me to be nice personally, that's what.

                                2.

                                4. Sadly enough, common decency is nearly impossible to find on the internet. I personally don't expect people to follow what's in this thread, but we can still try
