Re: Saw V
pretty much what im going to do. I have saw 1-4 on dvd and i enjoy the series. I hoenstly thought they were going to stop at 3 because i loved how that ended but saw 4 was enjoyable IMO. ill most likely see saw 5 on halloween too.I'll probably be going to see it on Halloween night. Just again to see how it continues. I enjoyed the first I-IV if only to see how they tied it all together. IV was a little convoluted with how it tried to justify everything that was going on so I am expecting more of the same in V.Comment

Re: Saw V
there may be spoilers.
I'm a huge saw fan, i've followed it from the start and enjoyed every movie.
The major problem with the saw series is that they have moved away from what made saw 1 so great. it was simple, and it was more of a mind game for the victims. the newer movies it seems like they just have 30 seconds to either hurt themselves or die. they have no time to think of what they have done, and to have the situation really sink in.
that being said they did try to move back towards that in saw 5. although the amount of large contraptions and bombs was really disapointing. The ending I felt was horrible as a saw ending. when the movie poster says "You won’t believe how it ends" you really expect something amazing, a twist like you see in saw 1 or saw 4. but it really just turns out to be something completely expected and unimaginative.
There are tons of questions they still have not answered as well as new questions that they created. The movie itself didn't really move the saw story line any further, and the flashbacks showed things that I had already known or assumed (as a saw fan who picks apart every detail of the series).
so all in all, as a saw fan this movie is a disapointing continuation to the series. while providing the gore and traps that have become expected with saw, the story fell flat.
as a movie goer or someone who hasn't followed the saw series or seen the previous movies. this movie would be a complete mind ****. like i said nearlier half the movie is a flashback and without seeing the earlier movies nothing would make any sense, and the movie would just leave you confused.
if people are interested in really going deeper then the movies and trying to understand all the hidden twists and turns in the saw seires (and there are tons!) check out sites like officialsaw.com they have a large community that discuss the little details that really turn the saw series into something more than a torture movie. one thing i've learned watching all 5 movies is that nothing is put there by accident, if you see something on the screen that looks weird, there is a reason for it, although the explanation may lead all the way back to the first movie, or have something to do with future movies. you can count on the saw creators to go above and beyond with making this story complete.Comment

Re: Saw V
One was the best I thought. The only awesome part of the movie was the guy exploding and the dude who's arm got split in half. The story jumped around too much overall and I thought it had some plot flaws. In terms of pissing, I doubt they combined had 10 pints of piss, especially within the time limit, and one of them has A VAGINA. Those were high up and extremely narrow openings. Besides, the officer who died at the end was stupid, he didn't even for one second think, "oh, maybe I should listen to the whole message," or, "maybe i should have backup and stop before entering some demented creepy room with no one in it." Seriously...
Overall Saw = Fail.
Go see Sex Drive instead.

1 -3 was good. I actually can't remember IV even though I have it.
Don't think I'll go and see this one, heard alot of negative things about it. Might just lend it or whatever, like be illegal.Comment

Re: Saw V
Everyone here seems to have a good idea of the movie. It seems to be dragging on a what should be already finished storyline, the games weren't as intuitive, logic was slightly flawed, etc.
I enjoy the Saw movies basically for the extreme ingeniosity (spelling?) of Kramer (cancer guy/Jigsaw Killer). Same reason why I like Silence of the Lambs and The Dark Knight.“A painter paints his pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence. or if they didnt spend 2 damn minutes talking they could have unhooked the black chick from that bathrub before the bomb went off and dragged her in and put her in the saws to fill the thing up with blood.Comment

Re: Saw V
There's a thing that seems to be so common in movies these days, even when they weren't necessarily intending to make a series when they started, it goes like this: "The movie was successful and popular, clearly making another movie along the exact same lines will also be successful and popular"
Writers need to start actually trying to use their creative brains to come up with more than one good idea per decade each and then trying to milk it out to 4 or 5 movies. When you make a movie, and it is a great success, you should pat yourself on the back for being a skilled and creative writer, and then come up with another skilled and creative idea.
Fight Club is my perfect example. Fantastic book, great movie conversion, hugely popular, and then they dropped it. They didn't try to make some crappy sequel, they didn't try to stretch out the concept any more than for one great movie.
You know what else should have done that? Saw, The Matrix, Highlander, the list goes on.
When I saw the first Saw movie, I thought it was fantastic. It wa original, it was creative, it had one of the better twist endings I've ever seen, and man, it had ****ing Cary Elwes. I saw the second one and within 20 minutes I had already gone "Yup, they've ruined it, and they're going to stretch it out FOREVER" and now look, there's already a 5th one, and someone mentioned it's going to go to 7?

QFT. UNfortunately, in the worlds of media (of any type) what's popular, whether it be a musical artist, a movie, etc. will be dragged out and forced to produce more work, because the credibility of the original will drag out the people and the cash. There's a thing that seems to be so common in movies these days, even when they weren't necessarily intending to make a series when they started, it goes like this: "The movie was successful and popular, clearly making another movie along the exact same lines will also be successful and popular"

This goes for artists and movies that suck (personally speaking) and then they just keep playing into the stupid fan's checkbooks. Along with the fact that hype draws in many more people than the actual movie itself.
Oh well.

Re: Saw V
devonin, I think you put too much stock in the idea of the Matrix. Of course it worked as a standalone film (WB wouldn't have greenlit it otherwise), but that doesn't mean the story was intended to end with that. It's not even a conclusion. Ok, so he is The One, and he was able to beat Agent Smith. But what about all of humanity living underground? What about all of humanity still enslaved in the matrix? It's a typical origin story, not a conclusion to a concept-universe that they created.
I think it's absurd to think that The Matrix was intended to be all there was, even if the film works on its own and you're not fond of the direction the sequels took. Some stories are clearly setups to serials. For example, when they made Batman Begins, do you really think they didn't go "yeah we could totally get to work on a sequel once we're done with this"? Hell no, they probably had a plan of direction for the sequel before production of Begins was even complete (see: slanted reference to Two Face and a direct reference to the Joker). You don't think they had sequel plans for Spider-man 2 before Spider-man even hit theatres? How about Dragon Ball? That film isn't even finished yet and they have principle actors planned in for sequels. Some films are designed in that way, and The Matrix is one of them, whether you like it or not.
As far as how much this relates to Saw, I'd say only partially. Sure, it probably wasn't made with the intention of creating a series, but it has lent itself to the form moderately well, at least until the end of the third film. The issue with it here isn't "they made sequels", it's that they went further with the sequels than they should have. If you kill the guy, he's dead, don't make more films. Don't beat the dead Jigsaw.
