Re: Preview of a track I'm working on.

And some people do it for both fun AND money.

I'm getting close to the point where I will soon no longer even need a full-time or part time job. Sure I enjoy my current Marketing job, but being able to do what I LOVE (Music) 24/7 because it pays my bills and amenities, allows me to turn around and focus that much more on music. Literally 40 hours a week more of focus on music, that I don't have to be wasting working for someone else.

Sure every hobby starts out as just that, a hobby. But if you're able to turn something you love to do into a living, why the hell not? There is nothing wrong with that at all.

This is the internet man. Who really knows anyone Zajac? People have got to stop using that argument.

And I to Im tired of people calling something DNB when its Breakcore, but Id rather correct people than attack them like you are doing Zajac. But other than that, Im mostly with you on what you said. Like you said though, lets end this bitch fest, because there really doesn't need to be drama on a thread of a just-in-comming-out-dj thats trying to figure out how his tracks are going.

This is actually not bad, but the next person that calls this DNB.... I actually wouldn't mind seeing some steppable darkstep songs aka Current Value and Limewax kind. I would jump all over that.

I myself don't do any music on FFR. But if you are an FFR Music Producer, you can upload music or something, not sure how it works.

Halo, Ion Storm, Cybernetics, Tecktronic, Fear, Death Marching, Peace, Strange Peace, Empowered, Faith.... I can go on forever. All can be found on youtube. Those are the ones that come to mind. To me these are the best of his. Probably because I listen to them so much.

The Power is just to.... its just not chaotic enough for me LOL.

If Darkstep/hardstep were more steppable, Id be all over that.

They're totally steppable. The problem is nearly all of the stepfile artists out there are terrible.

Re: Preview of a track I'm working on.

That possibly but a lot of Current Value is extremely repetitive and thats just the problem with DNB outside Stepmania/FFR/simulation. Its different for like the first 2 min, but then after that, its the same thing over and over again. Also I dont know why, but stepartists now go more for like stepping as an artform. Because of that, they step more like rock, instrumental techno, orchestra Oster kinds of songs which I seriously dont like.

For instance, Im stepping the classic Super Sharp Shooter by The Ganja Kru and Zinc from Helter Skelter Vs Raindance Rave Nation 2008, (Omni Trio's - Renegade Snare is on my list as well) and Im having a ball stepping it. It has a lot of bpm changes and many stops and accelerations. Its a great song and this will be a fun song to play. Im stepping it for the the FFRCP3 pack right now. The problem is, its jungle DNB. Thats already a turnoff probably LOL. Just like Gabba/Rotterdam Hardcore and Terrorcore, there just isn't enough there in the song for there to be an interesting file or anything fun. There isn't enough changes, dynamic changes, melody changes that step artists look for now a days. Now in some cases, you can say that step artists are terrible, but many of them are more interested in getting their files in packs and FFR. You may know this already, but there are a lot of guidlines in getting files in SM packs and a major one now a days is song choice. If the judges dont like the song, that can be an instant rejection without even trying out the file. I dont agree with that. Every file should be played whether you like it or not, but thats just what happens. FFR is the same thing.

In FFR's case, the DNB songs in the game is to generalized, to newgroundized and to be honest, not that great. Stepartists are so used to going with the rhythm when they should be stepping what the genra is: Drum and Bass. I find this in SM files to, but to be honest, the situation is better in SM than in FFR. Honestly, good DNB music make probably the best stepfiles and since Im a big fanatic of the DNB genra in general, I usually go the extra mile and analyze the songs more intently than any listener when deciding in stepping a DNB file as well as being very picky.

This of course is my opinion and can be disputed one way or another. I think I went off on a tangent here and there, but whatever... This is how I post.

The problem with this is that its gotten to a point that certain genras are excluded. Musical taste of a certain person will be different from a judge and if the judge doesn't like it, the judge will reject the file purely because he doesn't like the song period without really judgeing the file for what it really is: the file itself.

Thats the only thing I have a problem with. I step files for fun mostly, but I concentrate sending files to packs. I listen to a song I love and I try to step that. As you know, everyone does this. As a gabba/Rotterdam/Terrorcore/DNB fanatic.... well not a lot of people like this. If a judge doesn't like Gabba Techno and I know he will reject any Gabba file that I send, I tend to not send the file because of the knowing I will get rejected. Theres just a lot of mind politics that just shouldn't exist. But they do exist and thats where my problem with stepping really lies.

Although a small problem in my perspective, it looses the essence of stepping: stepping songs you like. You are sort of forced to step people to their musical taste so that ur file gets accepted. Although you can always step songs you'd like, its also even better to show it to the public and the best way to do that is through packs and FFR.

I was still typing my last post when I saw Erothymes new post to my quote. I dont think thats trolling, but just in case, Im sorry if I did.

I hope I dont get flamed for expressing these thoughts.

Re: Preview of a track I'm working on.

I'm honestly a little confused by your statement of D'nB being extremely repetitive...

It's a broken beat genre, so any good, more recent, D'nB artist will mix it up.

I can see what you mean if you're talking about older D'nB, or even the liquid/jazzy sub-genre, since it's all just chill-out music, and can be repetitive.

But a lot of the tracks being produced nowadays are far from repetitive in my opinion. Of course there has to be concurrent themes and a flow and such, but as far as percussion primarily, it's not always the same throughout the entirety of the track.

When it comes to the dark/hardstep sub genre (The genre I stray away from, not my style), most of the time it is all just drum loops that they've created and then play 'em through in various pitches. So that in itself can get repetitive, but is also the key of dark/hardstep, and producers use the percussion they've created to keep the track flowing, instead of melody or harmony, y'know

So to sum it up. I laugh at your opinion of D'nB being repetitive

so, taking a step back from the flame train.

Jake, you beautiful bastard, it's sounding gorgeous. The dev/null influence is clear in this one and the chopping is excellent.. get some compression on your drums to bring out those bitches and make that **** punch me in the god damned face!

Very Dnb ish, i like the vocals you added in there. this to me sounds pretty good songwise. I mean you could use some more mastering but other than that its good.
