Look at some scales. I start fiddling with them. Boom, you have a magical piece that actually makes musical sense.

Now, did I say whore E phrygian? No. Malmsteen blows ass. I TRY to put emotion into my songs. They aren't all useless shredding.

Using a midi piano plugged into your computer, you can easily step "emotion" into a sequencer by having it record precisely when you hit a key on the piano. Thus you can have the imprecision of live play, or you can have the structured exactness of anything else.

Most of the time I start by actually making the synth how I want it to sound, then making the melody.

From there I add percussion, then bass. After that I try and extend the little clip into a full song, then last I add harmonies and stuff.

emotion and feeling In my opinion is VERY hard to put into a techno song, due to the fact that a computer is practically doing everything for you, and your not the one acually playing the music most of the time. Also, I started trying to put somewhat of an enviorment(sp?) into the song, like for someone to visualize like a world or place with just the music.

What are you talking about? It's no more difficult to convey emotions and/or feelings into electronic music than it is for any other genre of music >_> opinion shmopinion

It's a matter of how the song makes you feel whilst listening to it, I suppose. I suppose a lot of electronic songs are good at creating visuals, but that doesn't mean you can't tell what kind of emotions the composer had put into the song... I guess I'd have to get some audio examples uploaded or something to compare it. D:

Also it kind of depends of what electronic music you're talking about.. if you're referring to something simple like a trance song you hear at a dance club, then yeah, I know what you mean, but there are artists out there who can make you feel how they wanted the song to make you feel.

I would say it's a crapload easier to interpret a Jazz song with feeling rather then a techno song.

I can assure you that the latest song that I have made, Color of Giggles, portrays the feelings I had in mind pretty blatantly. And if you want to talk about electronic art music, I think BT's latest album does a pretty good job of showing emotion, feeling, and expression.
