Although if I was voting, I would choose for the things he says he will do, but probably wouldn't vote for him because of the fact hes a democrat. My family are Republicans and thats how I was raised, it's hard to go against ones party.

People who vote straight party really piss me off. I was raised a God-fearing ultra-conservative, too, but I still take the time to actually research the candidates asking me for their votes.

Give me a break this is the internet age. Any information you could possibly want is right at your fingertips. No one should be using the excuse that it's hard to break away from family tradition anymore.

Wasn't that much earlier than that, that there were white men who didn't own land who were bitching for the right to vote. Nice to see they're all turning out 100% voter rates...oh wait.

Just because they wanted to vote, why should we? There's nothing wrong with political apathy and hell if people don't want to vote that should be OK to voters--it means each individual vote counts a infinitesimal fraction more.

I also find it extremely pathetic how regardless that in the past century women and black people were bitching to get voting rights, however now that they finally have it, they don't take advantage of it.

Simply amazing.

1) Don't group people by race and color. It's unfair-- the blacks and women of yesteryear are certainly different than the ones of today.

2) I'm sure not everyone was being loud and annoying about it.

3) Wanting to have right doesn't necessarily mean that you want to flex it. I want marijuana legalized, but I don't plan on smoking it.

I was countering KgZ's claim about blacks and women by pointing out that the same can be said of whites and men.

You're skirting into pretty prejudicial territory. The point has been made repeatedly that far more groups than just those weren't franchised and fought for their franchise, and that those groups now demonstrate a lack of interest in exercising their franchise.

In fact, it's 18-39 white men who do the -least- voting in the united states.

Let's take some stats I found for the 2000 election (source here, tell me if I've interpreted anything incorrectly)

65.6% of eligible female voters registered. 62.2% of eligible male voters registered.
56.2% of eligible female voters voted, compared to 53.1% of registered male voters.

45.4% of eligible 18-24 year olds registered to vote. 25-44 year olds saw 59.6% registration, with the number increasing along with age. Only 7% of the 2000 vote came from 18-24 year olds, making up ~12% of the voting population.

70% of whites registered to vote, only 60.4% of these actually voted.
63.6% of blacks registered to vote, only 53.5% of these voted.
34.9% of Hispanics registered, 27.5% of these voted.

In a comparison of voter turnout by race, here are the percentages:

Whites - 37% of the total vote
Blacks - 32% of the total vote
Hispanics - 16% of the total vote
Asian & Pacific Islander - 15% of the total vote

Now some of this seems contradictory, which puzzles me.

Someone else already said this, but I'll say it anyway.

Just because we want marijuiana legalized doesn't mean we plan to smoke it.
We want the right to be able to CHOOSE to smoke it if we want to.

Umm...I was saying it like...
I want the RIGHT to vote, but to choose NOT to vote is = I want the right to smoke marijuiana, but choose NOT to smoke.

I wanna have my cake and leave it alone. ^_^

Made sense to me, sort of. The issue there is that no one has the right to smoke. If some people had the right to smoke based on age, gender, or racial background, everyone else would want the right as well.

I don't vote because we are still concerned with a presidents moral standards and what they believe in to a point where we actually have to mention "he's a mormon, he's a christian" just to attract voters. I don't vote because I still am yet to find a candidate who wont use their own personal moral beliefs to run a country. There are only two or three moral principles that can truly be relative to ALL of humanity. Don't steal from another, Do not harm another, and the other I am still contemplating on but for the most part this is it. Any other moral view is just personal preference. And until the candidates can stop trying to use their own personal morals to guide their actions in office and learn to use reason and logic, I will not vote. Until I can find a candidate who will be willing to take serious risks for their country (risks concerning exerimenting with the nation economic wise or anything else that we may need to fix up or play with to make better, even if it gets worse FIRST) I will not vote.

In Romney's defense, he's never used the fact he's Mormon to try and garner votes. People ask him about it because he's open about his religious beliefs and so media has drawn all the attention to it they could.

Also, if you would vote for someone who'd make stupid risks in order to try and fix the economy rather than going with someone that knew what the hell they were doing, I'd have to physically injure you.

In case people don't know, Economics is just about the single only thing i care about when it comes to the presidential election and it's one reason I'll probably always vote Republican. I'm not a socialist, which hardcore Democrats are. My money is my ****ing money and if you try to take it away from me, I'll be extremely angry.

I would vote, but I am kinda "age challenged". My history teacher wrote down his name on the voting thing for the primary and voted for himself...lol

I in know way mentioned that the person running economics should know nothing, that's absurd. I'd rather go with McCain than Romney. Romney is the damn devil.
