Unless you are playing quite deep a 4-bet might be committing you depending on how much of your stack is in. Now should you have even 4-bet in the first place? Maybe if your opponent who 3-bet is not extremely tight. ESPECIALLY if you have a tight image yourself if you are getting 3-bet by a competent person you are essentially turning AK into a bluff which sounds silly but people do get JJ QQ KK AA while you have AK. However if you have a loose image 4-betting people in general with AK is sometimes not a bad idea because lots of hand ranges widen more. But as always it's situational.

Now there is actually a difference between tournament play and cash game play. If you are committing 50% of your stack in a tournament and that example comes up and that action takes place in front of you it's an easy fold. Tourneys are about survival and it's likely someone has top pair at least but more likely a set. (you probably shouldn't even have 4 bet in the first place). In a cash game you can always rebuy and if you decide you are getting pot odds or your opponent is full of it you are more safely committing your chips. However the vast majority of the time that spot would be a fold because you can't beat anything that isn't a stone cold bluff.
