You're walking down some railroad tracks and you see a fork upcoming in the train tracks.

you see five people tied down on one side and one person on the other.

You notice a train is coming and you happen to be standing by the switch

The train's course as of now is that it's going to hit the 5 tied down people

assume all 6 people who are tied down are no one you know. They're all randoms.

do you change the track so that the train hits the one person?

Same question but with the following changes (assume each number is re-asking the question with only the specified changes)

1. The 5 people are convicted murders. You are able to recognize them instantly and know the back story behind all five.

2. The 1 person tied down, is a little girl. Age unknown but younger than 9 years of age but noticeably older than 6 years of age.

3. The 1 person tied down is someone you know extremely well and care for immensely.

PS: I got asked these in my intro to philosophy class in case you're wondering where this comes from. It has a better source than that, but that's where I was introduced and was not paying attention to if the instructor mentioned where he got it from.

Under what conditions would you ever find it reasonable to carry me? Consider the following: what if I was unconscious?, what if I was sick or injured?, what if I was depressed and I wanted someone to hold and carry me to make me feel better?, what if you were in dire need of exercise?, what if someone paid you to do it?, what if you did it with the intention of dropping me on the ground afterward? what if you did it with intention of dropping me on to your bed afterward?
