(Also trying to find a drive to lose weight lmao, been feeling sick lately though so welp.)
lots of times. the general trick is to take it slow and weigh in about once a week (same time, same clothes, same pre/post shower routine etc) and on aggregate you'll see results. with generally watching your calories and moderate working out 3-5 days a week you can expect about 1-1.5lbs lost per week. the amount is small enough that water weight etc will throw you off pretty often but ya can't get discouraged by the numbers. before and after fullbody pics are also a neat way to see your progress visually from month to month.

Also, what is it that motivated you to play Stepmania for so long? (Before you took a break and after your break)
before The Long Hiatus, i was maybe a top 30 player at *best.* i couldn't compete with most of the top-tier folks in the way i strive to now, but that didn't bother me. i had a terrific network of friends and casual competitors on this site and odi (exouds, ieatyourlvl, cetaka, loot_you, midare, masamursha, paexea, massflavour, chauster, mina, bender, bunch of others) who were a really sharp and fun crowd to banter and play with. later on simfiles and my association with the DCs really kept my interest alive, even after i'd more or less stopped playing for scores.

post Hiatus, i've been mostly motivated by a jumpstarted improvement curve and being able to compete with the best of em. the scores crew is different (though there's plenty of baller mainstays like dossar, alex, stai, isaac, etc) but still a lot of fun. i've met some of them and feel like i have as close a tie to the community as i ever have. don't expect me to leave anytime soon haha

What do you plan to go for in the future?
ideally, i'd love to write professionally in just about any capacity. but that's the kind of career plan for which you hedge your bets. my primary goal right now is to finish my BA in english and start my Masters and hopefully end up teaching high school english somewhere in california.

even with standalone and trying every engine on every version of flash, FFR runs with horrendous lag about 95 times out of a hundred. restarting a bunch of times helps now and then (tho certain files, like jai envie and jx's vsnares files, seem to be permanently lag-glitched for me), but it's just not worth the effort for me to try and get it running smoothly. even when it does work, framers, cramped graphics (vs stepmania with its large, clean screen/gfx and perspective mods), splitting jumps on my laptop keys and generally not "getting" the timing windows, i'll just ALWAYS prefer stepmania as an experience.

          Your best vibr8 score is?
high B on jhm? i can't vibrate well or for very long, but the speed i CAN do it at (~180 16ths) is actually pretty useful for random midlength midare jacks and the like.

Do you know anything about me?
i don't recognize you as a longtime member; all i can recall of you is in chitchat threads and whatnot wherein you appear to be a really nice, likable poster who's not loud or dumb which makes you a 10/10 in my book (team Chill Dudes represent)

                      Re: poopet - AMA

This is a weird question maybe but. A lot of interesting people on Stepmania and FFR have sort of moved away from, you know, actually playing Stepmania and FFR, and even though maybe this is because the people who are asking you questions are Stepmania/FFR People, it seems like you've done that less so--which isn't a bad thing!

basically my question is, is there something aside from "i like to mash my fingers fast" that has been keeping you playing this game? The main reason I ask this is because your answer to the "top five players" question almost struck me as analogous to a top five directors or bands list.

tl;dr is there some sort of deep almost aesthetic/artistic/creative appeal to stepmania that you could shed light on? or

I still practice the eskrima stick fighting, but without a consistent training partner i've been mostly developing my form and fluidity over combat skills. the sticks are roughly baton-sized (a little wider and heavier) so i spend a lot of idle time just rolling them over my knuckles and twirling them and stuff while i smoke or read or do homework (i have VERY restless hands, and stuff like cigarettes and those sticks keeps them from stuffing my face constantly out of boredom).

i try to read about two books a month, but when school's going on i can rarely even meet that. and since i've started writing fiction seriously most of my reading time is spent re-reading/digesting small parts of books or poems i've already read for bursts of inspiration haha.

as for writing, i bounce around the SF/Sacramento area a lot on weekends to hang out/work together on various projects with either my girlfriend (Alameda), her best friend (San Mateo) or my best friend Ejay (Napa).

when i'm at home and not working on school stuff i enjoy having little round-robin beer pong tournaments with my three housemates, hosting parties, and watching a lot of netflix--i'm almost done with buffy/angel

also about 2-3 times/month (used to be much more often) i get into these trance-like depressive funks that last all day. where i used to not be able to do just about anything on those days, now i open wikipedia and learn about random bullshit for six or seven hours so i at least feel like i'm doing *something* lol

woops sorry. this kind of question is a little vague but if i think of it as a kind of life motto/philosophy i guess it would be something like this:

-empathy is our most valuable asset as humans. we have the capacity to grasp and respond emotionally to the plights of others, and that should inform everything we do. being a callous or mean person is basically the most unattractive thing possible.
-knowledge is important. it's the cornerstone of self-improvement. you will *feel* like a greater person as your understanding of the world--of the way things work, of art and cultures--broadens.
-art is important too. if you have an art, keep it up; strive for excellence. make it a habit to hone it. if that's painting or playing bongos or charting for stepmania or doing a journalism photo project, do it the best you can and don't keep it a secret. the criticism and adulation of others is one of the best motivators in the world.
-every time you have a task to complete (whether it's a twenty page paper or just getting up and showering), as soon as it starts to manifest in your head as something you *have* to do, say to yourself "Let's do that now." and then do it.

i can't say i always live up to these things, but it's what i try to keep in mind as i go about my days.

will answer the others when i get a chance
