I wouldn't want to be on a bridge when a huge earthquake strikes. Whenever I'm on the Bay Bridge or San Mateo Bridge, I tell the "earthquake" to wait until I get off the bridge.

There is a name for what's happening right now and it is predicted that California is going to experience something big next.

Isn't it called the San Andreas Fault?

The San Andreas Fault is the cause for most of Cali's earthquakes, and no, it's not an event lol.
Also, prediction of earthquakes is impossible with our current knowledge.

the border of california aka the coast, is on a different tectonic plate then the rest of CA, and it is slowly moving northwards. i dont think CA will fall into the ocean, but it could be split up

One side of California's on the Pacific plate, and the other's part of the North American plate. The sliver of California on the LA side will eventually move northwards towards Alaska, in millions of years time.

Unlike Japan, California's earthquakes are due to strike-slip mechanisms (i.e. lateral plate movements) on the continent. Japan's tsunami was due to an offshore earthquake, which was caused by shallow subduction (i.e. oceanic crust goes underneath continental crust). California doesn't really have to worry about tsunamis from the San Andreas, but tsunamis might be a possibility if there's a rupture in the Juan de Fuca plate off the Pacific NW (e.g. Crescent City in northern Cali).

I know it's not an event. I just knew that there was a reason behind the next big major earthquake most likely to happen.

Mm, ok. The only thing we have to go off in regards to "next big quake" is elapsed time. i.e. if the last big earthquake in the region happened 300 years ago, another one will occur in the future. That's about as accurate as we can get though. There's too many complications and factors to predict earthquakes, and part of that is due to the complex geometries of the faults...they're not straight lines as we see it in textbooks and figures.

I live in Central cali so if a big quake hit's I think we would be pretty okay for the most part.
