Re: Random Poll: Best President and why?
It's really tough for me to name just one - I'm majoring in Political Science and I study, among other things, presidential administrations (mainly on my own time, since my first Bachelor-level classes don't start until May). I can't name just one, especially given the very diverse amounts of accomplishments each has to their name. I'd definitely have to include the following:
-Theodore Roosevelt, for his progressive viewpoints in that he sought to preserve our natural wonders and environment, his willingness to bust the trusts, and his enactment of food safety regulations, among other things.
-Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The man led us through the Depression and World War II. He was a hell of a leader and willing to take actions necessary to drive the economy through war and a depression (such as the New Deal - unemployment, even during the 1938 recession, was significantly lower than when he entered office). I resent his authorization of the Japanese internment camps, but given the situation following the attack on Pearl Harbor I can understand where he was coming from.
-Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson: Need I say more?
Though many people in here cite Clinton (and understandably so), Bubba doesn't quite make the cut for me simply because the strength of the 1990s was much in part due to the tech boom as well as the fact that he stepped into office on the heels of an economic recovery: businesses were already beginning to hire people back starting in 1992, but it was picking up pace quickly: he got lucky in that large hiring started taking place by 1993 (and especially so in 1994). Also, Monica Lewinsky hehe.
