At least, it takes a lot when the source is a drink. It'd probably be a lot easier (read: actually possible) to die with caffeine pills. You might overdose on caffeine from an energy drink, but that won't kill you.
Absolutely the **** not it doesn't. Drinks don't have a whole lot of caffeine (they're all in low magnitudes of milligrams). It only takes a few grams of caffeine to do you in. If I had been talking about the caffeine strictly in drinks I would have mentioned drinks. I'm talking about strictly caffeine, here.
I call bull**** on that "Death By Caffeine" calculator. It says it would take 45 cans of Redline to kill someone who weighs 165 pounds. BULL****.
I dare someone to try 10 cans in a single day and see if you think you'd live through that 4 times over. With the effects snowballing since you're keeping all those stimulants in your body.
I bet you would literally die if you drank 15 of those in an hour.
Actually, that's probably an underestimate. It would be very hard to kill yourself by drinking energy drinks.
The average person can handle about 150-200 mg of caffeine per kilogram of body mass. 165 pounds is about 75 kilos, so that's 11250-15000 milligrams.
If we were talking caffeine alone, and we look at say a standard can of Monster Energy, it would take between 70 and 94 cans drank within a rather short period of time to put you at high risk for death. The only way you could get a figure as low as 45 cans would be to consider how much you'd have to drink to put you at even a minuscule risk of death (i.e. less than 1%)
Caffeine's half-life is about 5 hours, so you'd probably have a 2-3 hour time window for this. As such, good luck killing yourself with this stuff.
If you wanted to suicide with Caffeine, it would be much easier with pills. A couple grams would do it.
Not in any good way. They make you think you have more energy. Yes I understand that is effecting your body, but it isn't energy that you didn't have in the first place. You don't just get energy out of nowhere. You need to actually eat food to get the calories.
Bro, energy drinks are often packed with sugar on top of caffeine.
But even more than this, people usually have more energy (i.e., sugar) in their body than they're aware of that they just never use (which then gets stored as fat). They may feel as though they haven't any energy, but it's all in their head. They're just being lazy.

I conceded that it's not hard to die from caffeine in a concentrated form. But that's not what anyone is talking about here. Even the hardest of energy drinks won't **** you up like pills could. Frankly, you are right about caffeine in general, but no one is talking about that.

I like Monster Original, with some Jägermeister.
Like someone else already said, mixing alcohol with energy drinks can increase heart problems. Not a good idea generally speaking.
